POSITION PURPOSE
The Controls Field Engineer
Specifically, this position has primary responsibility for field deployment of BAC's AI / Machine learning technology into the HVAC market. This position serves as the primary contact for hardware and controls integration in the field to ensure successful system start-up and commissioning services when provided directly by BAC. They provide a high level of technical expertise and have experience working with different BAS providers.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Most importantly, a successful candidate needs to be self-motivated and able to solve problems on the fly to drive successful implementation of BAC's Loop platform. This includes successful coordination of both internal and external resources to ensure efficient deployment of Loop for a seamless customer experience.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a BAS Controls Technician Experience with analog and digital Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA), and control system logic design.
Understanding of networks, VPNs, competent computer troubleshooting, general IT knowledge (VM, remote desktop, servers, routers, ports, encryption/SSL)
Experience configuring and troubleshooting HVAC controls, drives, and electronic components, as well as PLC & VFD programming.
Knowledge of software engineering and encrypting languages.
Knowledge of flow meters, temp. sensors, wireless mesh technology.
Well-versed in communication protocols such as analog, BACnet, and Modbus, and familiarity with different BAS platforms such as Automated Logic, Siemens, Schneider, Honeywell, and JCI. Knowledge of Tridium and/or J2 Innovation products is a plus.
Experience with integrating proprietary communication protocols with BACnet.
Strong understanding of process control concepts with experience in understanding P&IDs, cause and effects, control narratives, I/O data, industrial instrumentation, and electrical concepts.
5+ years of experience with commercial/industrial HVAC/R or commercial/industrial refrigeration equipment is strongly preferred.
High attention to detail, strong customer service focus (internal and external customers).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Technical expertise must be complemented by self-motivation, relationship building skills, effective communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information in layman's terms, and the ability to effectively work in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated strength in project management, organization, and planning.
Relevant certifications (e.g., Niagara / Tridium) are highly desirable.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Conduct pre-sales site visits to evaluate chiller plant facilities of prospective clients to assess their suitability for our optimization technology. Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all site visits.
Lead on-site installation, validation and commissioning of hardware, sensors, and controls systems (BAC's and other third party's systems).
Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
Direct pre-commissioning process with customers to facilitate successful equipment installation and avoid issues before startup.
Ensure customer satisfaction through quick follow-up to problems/customer concerns, good root cause analysis, & complete feedback.
Assist the Controls Engineer with planning and execution of field installations and project execution.
Document commissioning activities, and communicate relevant findings to the internal Sales, Quality, and Engineering organizations.
Develop and maintain strong relationships and ensure customer needs are positively satisfied.

NATURE & SCOPE
The Controls Engineer
HVAC automation reports to the Business Development Leader
BAC Loop. This role will have interactions with all areas and levels within the organization, as well as customers and suppliers. This role does not currently have direct reports.
