General Function: Supervises children within the walls of the YMCA. One will participate in all aspects of the program designated by the supervisor, assisting in planning and preparation of the environment, setting up learning centers, preparing needed materials and supplies as designated by the Supervisor. One will interact with the children and keep them safe while also providing activities to keep entertained.

Know How or Education and Experience Required:

  • Ability and desire to work with children ages 6 months to 12 years of age.

  • Interpersonal Communication skills a must when interacting with children and parents.

Minimum age requirement: 18 years of age. (Sixteen-year-olds may be considered but must demonstrate a high level of maturity and may not open or close the building.).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to set up/break down learning centers in classroom

  • Able to lift over 25 pounds.

Hours/Availability

  • Must be available for morning shifts until noon

  • Flexible availability

  • Willing to work multiple shifts and sub

Principal Responsibilities and Activities:

  • Ensures the health and safety of children at all times.

  • Planning safe, stimulating, age-appropriate activities

  • Multitasking: can manage with more than one child at a time

  • Energetic, very sensitive regarding others' needs and friendly towards children

  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of the classroom at all times.

  • Obtains substitutes when necessary, notifies Supervisor and demonstrates willingness to sub as needed.

  • Maintains discipline.

  • Assists children in performing tasks as necessary.

  • Communicates in a professional and courteous manner to team members, parents and supervisors.

  • Maintains open communication with the Director, fellow staff, and parents.

  • Maintains attendance records

  • Ensures that classroom materials and equipment are in good condition and properly maintained.

  • Maintains a professional and positive attitude and exhibits loyalty to the Regional YMCA at all times, which effectively contributes to positive morale within the program.

  • Attends staff meetings and recommended training programs.

  • Participates in Y sponsored functions.

  • Performs other job-related duties as deemed necessary by supervisors.

  • Locates parents in YMCA when child is upset or injured.

  • Maintains a healthy and safe environment for the children and made sure that only permitted people came to visit the children.

  • Uses cell phone devices ONLY for emergency purposes

  • Follow through on directions given by the supervisors.

  • Support YMCA policies.

  • Exhibits evidence of initiative and motivation.
