Job Overview

LPL's Planning & Advice Services product management team is hiring a product manager to drive experimentation with new service offerings, industry and user research, and help define best practices for financial planning within our team. In this role you will be the critical bridge between product craft and service expertise. You will work closely with service delivery, design, and client success, and engineering to refine existing offerings, launch new services, and build new technology to keep our planning service offering at the leading edge of the indusry.

Our team offers LPL advisors one subscription to access any resource they may need to ramp up financial planning, from outsourcing financial plan creation so they can focus on client-facing work, access to of specialists in areas like tax, investment analysis, and estate planning for high net worth clients, or even 1:1 coaching on how to optimize their financial planning practice to suit their goals.

The right candidate will bring knowledge of financial planning, a strong desire to grow in the product management craft, and a willingness to run with a wide variety of projects at varying altitudes - whatever is needed to keep building the business. This role can be based out of San Diego, Tempe, Austin, or Fort Mill, SC.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand customers' needs and desires through customer interviews, compiling feedback from our sales and client success teams to inform our roadmap

  • Keep our team abreast of competitor activity with market research and competitor teardowns

  • Continue to ensure success of existing products by partnering with product delivery teams to regularly review best practices

  • Take a data-based approach to enhance existing services and/or build new service offerings by partnering with vendors, service delivery, and LPL technology including defining wireframes, functional specifications and operational flowcharts.

  • Define and continually refine key attributes of existing and new offerings including the product pricing, business case, economics, and operational model

  • Sourcing latest technologies and maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending conference; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.

  • Define mid and longer term technology product development roadmap, key features/capabilities, and manage the development cycles with clear schedules, deliverables and milestones.

  • Develop metrics to assess the success of products and features and determine necessary enhancements

What does your success look like in the first 90 days

  • Understand the product vision,

  • Become a subject matter expert on our users' (advisors and investors) needs with respect to financial planning,

  • Understand our current competition, both direct and indirect

  • Take ownership of a research & experimentation roadmap and work closely with your design, technical PM, and dev lead to shape it

  • Assess our existing product portfolio and roadmaps

  • Build relationships with your team and broader organization

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience with financial planning

  • 2+ year experience working with product or service teams to develop product strategies.

  • 2+ years of professional experience within product or service management roles.

Preferences:

  • Bonus points for CFP designation, past experience as a financial advisor, or serving high net worth clientele

Pay Range:

$113,440-$170,160/year

Actual base salary varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
