The AVP Privacy Operations provides analysis and solutions in support of the Privacy Office. The person in this role will be responsible for helping to develop strategy and operationalize privacy requirements in support of the Privacy Office's function of maintaining and maturing the Organization's privacy program. The role will provide expert data privacy related advice and support data privacy management which includes overseeing the teams completing privacy impact assessments and implementing privacy by design in new company initiatives and projects for GM Financial teams globally, including coordinating with local teams. This role will also regularly consult with enterprise stakeholders to develop strategies to minimize risk, support data governance framework, and improve privacy-based safeguards aimed at protecting data. Reports to VP Privacy Counsel.

Responsibilities

About the role:

  • Provide continued organization and coordination of organizational privacy processes and efforts (US and global)

  • Lead a team of Data Privacy Mangers to complete and properly decision privacy impact assessments

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of privacy laws, best practices and emerging technologies

  • Influence and contribute to the company direction and solutions for data governance

  • Raise project risks and issues and make recommendations based on experience, privacy requirements, and best practices

  • Take ownership for implementation of new privacy laws and requirements

  • Ensure privacy requirements are properly captured and maintained within business systems, including engagement with business teams and Privacy Engineer(s) to enable advertising technology and cookie privacy related requirements

  • Work collaboratively with Cybersecurity to ensure continuous alignment between Cybersecurity and privacy compliance programs (including policies, practices and programs)

  • Work collaboratively with Cybersecurity, Compliance, IT, Purchasing and other business functions to embed privacy related requirements within new and existing processes, projects and teams (privacy by design)

  • Support development, awareness, and execution of privacy program goals to align with business priorities

  • Assist in developing and/or maintaining privacy related policies, procedures, awareness and training

  • Assist in managing the company's customer facing privacy notices and policies and ensuring business alignment with those notices and policies

  • Establish privacy program metrics and create and maintain various reporting

  • Provide continued development and maintenance of a comprehensive privacy program which minimizes risk and maintains the confidentiality of personal information of consumers and employees and other applicable company data

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Conform with all company policies and procedures

Qualifications

What makes you an ideal candidate:

  • Knowledge of US and Canada Privacy laws, with focus on financial institution data

  • Knowledge of Applicable global privacy laws

  • Knowledge of information technology systems, data governance, infrastructure and operations preferably

  • Experience in completing privacy impact assessments

  • Analytical ability to identify opportunities, define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

  • Conversant in information technology and related privacy issues

Experience

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in organizational privacy processes and efforts (US and global) required
  • 3-5 years Management or leadership experience required

Licenses

  • CIPP or CIPM Certification preferred
