Area Vice President of Business Development

The Area Vice President of Business Development maintains the continuity of existing business; identifies and coordinates the development of new business opportunities in assigned territories; manages teams of business development staff, to include training and professional development; assists in development and implementation of sales strategies; and, initiates sales and marketing activity to meet or exceed goals.

General Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists department in carrying out various programs and procedures

  • Acts as a role model within and outside the Company

  • Communicates regularly with supervisor about Department issues

  • Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload

  • Consistently reports to work on time prepared to perform duties of position

  • Participates in administrative staff meetings, committees, and special projects

  • Recommends new approaches to effect on-going continual improvements to policies, procedures, and documentation

  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations

  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

  • Consistently promotes the companys core values.

  • Completes required Curo annual training.

Essential Functions of Position

  • Directs and coordinates company sales functions.

  • Assists with developing and implementing sales selling methodology.

  • Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of sales, methods, costs and results.

  • Assists with development of sales budgets.

  • Assists in research and development of strategies and plans to identify marketing opportunities, directs marketing and new project development.

  • Provides support, direction, leadership and accountability for sales employees under supervision

  • Develops business partnerships by making effective sales contacts and presentations, obtaining referrals and assuring quality service.

  • Represents the company at various community and/or business meetings to promote company.

  • Within scope of position, provides leadership and personal accountability to ensure compliance to corporate and regulatory policies, business growth, professional development and integrity.

  • Provides leadership and support with clinical and operational counterparts to establish and implement short- and long-range goals, objectives, policies and operating standards.

  • Meets or exceeds budgeted admissions, census, revenue and expense goals for area of responsibility.

  • Participates in the recruitment, hiring and training of sales professionals to achieve budgeted growth goals for all offices under supervision.

  • Coaches and trains sales professionals on effective sales strategies by providing effective sales techniques and strategies through meetings, phone calls and field travel.

  • Promotes internal compliance to all human resources policies for recruitment, management, promotions and staff development.

  • Participates in the coordination of all aspects of the patients hospice care and in the hospices quality assessment and performance improvement program.

Job Specifications:

Specialized Knowledge/Skills:

  • Familiarity with state and federal guidelines and regulations

  • Working knowledge of budget development, financial profit/loss process, and human resources.

  • Ability to work with confidential information

  • Well organized and confident to work independently, but is a team player

  • Ability to communicate clearly to remote field, mid-level, and executive staff

  • Exercises professional judgment and demonstrates good problem-resolution skills

  • Very comfortable working with multiple online and computer applications

  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and manage conflicting priorities

  • Strong follow-up skills


  • Bachelors degree Required.

  • Five years previous direct sales experience in healthcare service industry required.

  • 2 to 4 years previous health care sales management required.


  • Valid drivers license and automobile liability insurance coverage


  • Intermediate Excel skills

  • Basic PowerPoint skills

  • Experience reviewing data in electronic systems

  • Experience with HomeCare-HomeBase preferred

Work Environment/Physical

  • Fast-paced environment

  • Some stress may occur

  • Extensive daily travel and frequent overnight travel

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, and to speak and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk, and drive an automobile for extended periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
