What you'll be doing:

Seeking an accomplished leader in Commercial Lines who brings deep industry expertise and a broad view of the marketplace. As the Center of Excellence (COE) leader of Non-Profit Human Services (NPHS), this individual will oversee national strategy development and execution of underwriting, growth, and profitability for this industry vertical.

Core competencies include driving clear strategic direction, managing risk selection and portfolio performance, and optimizing relationships with agents and brokers. This leader will also implement underwriting standards and specialized strategies for NPHS.

Provide underwriting direction and oversight for the execution of long and short-term underwriting strategies that advance organizational objectives. Supervisor responsibilities to include staffing, training and development, performance management, and work force planning.

On any given day, you'll:

  • Deploy comprehensive knowledge and mastery of industry strategy including underwriting, pricing, operations, finance and product development. Demonstrated competency in strategic and organizational agility and managing a vision and purpose.

  • Drive the development of growing business plans reflective of the competitive environment, inclusive of a plan for entry and expansion into each industry space and aggressively monitors results adjusting strategies and tactics to maximize profit while balancing growth.

  • Maintain appropriate specialization and awareness of industry trends by participating in specialized trade forums, industry boards or bureaus to build technical expertise and business acumen.

  • Develop and implements strategic long and short-range plans to drive profitable business opportunities within the Admitted business. Leads key initiatives to address business strategy and profitability objectives.

  • Ensure the organization develops and maintains successful relationships with top commercial agents and brokers by providing stewardship with service partners.

  • Evaluate underwriting performance of portfolio mix based on financial analysis including rate, reserve adequacy, operational, planning and product reviews.

  • Supervisor/Manager responsibilities may include all of the following:

  • Staffing needs, to include interviewing and onboarding for new employees.

  • Training and development, as well as coaching and motivation for staff.

  • Performance Management, goal setting, employee engagement, and salary administration.

  • Workforce Management to include unit equipment, software, space needs, approving time off and overtime usage, and budget recommendations.

  • Be innovative within the Center of Excellence and drive change towards operational excellence.

  • Determine optimal solutions to business challenges relying on experience and judgement.

  • Develop, lead, and manage a Church Mutual Special Business Unit to achieve overall profit and production objectives. Ensure Special Business Unit strategy aligns with corporate objectives.

  • Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with corporate underwriting to establish underwriting guidelines and eligibility rules that promote long‑term profitability of the assigned business segment.

Here's what we expect

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in Property and Casualty Underwriting

  • Four-year college degree required. Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 8+ years leading a team

  • License/Certification/Designation: CPCU, ARM or other industry designations preferred.

  • Forward thinker with an entrepreneurial Mindset

  • Broad understanding of the market place on a national level in the NPHS space.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify key insights by connecting disparate information sources.

  • Able to adapt in fast paced environment.

  • Balanced disposition while interacting with people both internally and externally.

  • Advanced communication skills, including technical knowledge in both written and verbal formats, across media, digital, and traditional channels

  • Demonstrated analytical/problem solving and leadership/supervisory and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated results-oriented leadership focus.

  • Periodic travel to office locations will be required.

  • Hybrid role location headquartered (Merrill, WI) or remote with visability in Milwaukee or Merrill
