Job Description

The Assistant Vice President of US Retirement Technology Customer Engagement Project Delivery reports directly to the Vice President of US Retirement Technology and is responsible for the project management, technical architecture, solutioning and execution on a portfolio of projects and initiatives that align to the Customer Engagement Value Stream for our Plan Sponsors, Advisors and Third Party Administers ("TPAs").

  • Lead a large team (about 100+) across Engineering, Solution Architects, Business & Systems Analysts, and Scrum Masters

  • Support and influence large scale initiatives and deliveries.

  • Organize and lead engineering and project management teams under on decision-making, prioritization and technical solutioning.

  • Responsible for system development and architecture decisions on our Group Annuity platform, including mainframe development, Ecomm systems, databases.

  • Responsible for providing resource management leadership, strategic planning, aligning project implementation, and establishing delivery standard methodologies to ensure strategic business objectives are achieved.

  • Leads programs and engineering policies, standards and processes. Implements continuous improvement process relative to project management.

  • Provides consistent communication to partners with updates on progress, impacts, and changes associated with management of portfolio.

  • Lead liaison with business Product Owners on developing timely assessment of portfolio prioritization, solutioning and early identification and intervention of portfolio-level issues and risks impacting delivery.

  • Participate and co-responsibility for project preparation and approval to reflect senior level support, leadership, and involvement.

  • Work closely with business Product Owners on distilling and challenging functional requirements into technical designs that result in highly scalable, secure, and high-end quality products

  • Recommends and direct action to analyze issues/risks; guide team to identify issues/risk solutions and provide project team with resources/support.

  • Maintains oversight and reporting metrics for our Value Stream project portfolio.

  • Develop, track, analyze, and lead metrics and resources required to execute projects within timelines, budgets, and quality measures.

  • Ensures resource requirements are planned, effectively applied, and utilization reported.

  • Lead and mentor talent towards building a progressive and innovative thinking team while demonstrating agility and flexibility in the delivery of project priorities.

  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to team members and mentor to further develop their skills and contribute towards their career goals.

  • Enables software development across key priorities through a team of leaders and Agile squads, with a focus on software development that enables other teams and accelerate the pace at which we delivery value.

  • Support best-practices around DevOps within the team and the segment.

  • Ensure effective Partner Management with peers

The successful candidate for this position will have:

  • Minimum 8+ years of broad-spectrum technical skills across Applications, Architecture and Infrastructure with direct domain expertise in both legacy (Mainframe) and new emerging technologies (e.g., mobile / digital, information management, analytics, etc.) as well as Salesforce experience

  • Experience in delivering multi-million-dollar high visibility system projects that have external customer facing technologies

  • Engineering Leadership experience in a complex, highly regulated, marketing focused growth business

  • Experience crafting partnerships with project sponsors and aligning technical strategic roadmaps with a business strategy in collaboration with internal and external partners

  • Prior experience transforming and empowering large organization with the IT strategies and solutions; recognized as a change champion and enabler

  • In-depth understanding of architecture driven methodologies, micro-services, API, technologies, and trends

  • Work experience with multi-geography business operations, release management, and client communication strongly preferred

  • Exceptional communications judgement and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels with both technical and non-technical partners --- translate complex technical issues into fundamental concept

  • Confident presentation and facilitation skills and strong interpersonal and leadership skills to facilitate working with senior management

  • Expertise with Agile and DevOps principles, test-driven development, continuous integration, and other approaches to accelerate the delivery of new features.

  • Experience in experimenting with new technologies and understanding how they will impact what comes next.

  • A capacity for constant learning from both success and failure, remaining open to change and continuous improvement.

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities that enable you to manage through creative abrasion; ability to deal with conflict and to facilitate resolution.

  • Deep experience in solution delivery.

  • Demonstrated success at delivering solution strategies involving multiple technical teams, partners and business functions.

  • Demonstrated success obtaining support and driving segment-level initiatives across complex matrix

  • Strong Portfolio Leadership skills, including the ability to manage multiple complex projects at the same time and under tight deadlines, operating in a cross-functional environment.

  • Strong vendor management experience and skills with demonstrated success establishing long term cost-effective partnerships

  • Initiative to explore new insights and the ability to empower others to accept progress and change.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to deliver meaningful recommendations based on analysis. Ability to translate analyses, using mediums to drive comprehensible recommendations (e.g., dashboards, graphics, summaries, etc.).

  • Exhibits curiosity and a grasp of details while also able to apply perspective to craft compelling business arguments.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, management of information systems or equivalent.
