Position Summary

The Digital Spaces department manages physical and virtual classrooms, specialized learning environments, and other learning environments (e.g., conference spaces). Oversees that they are suitably equipped and functional to meet the needs of the educational experience. Oversees the installation and long-term management of displays technologies (e.g., screens) across campus.The Digital Spaces department ensures physical classrooms, specialized learning environments, and other learning environments (e.g., conference spaces) are suitably equipped with technologies and functional to meet the needs of the space and its users.

The AV/IT Engineer (Systems Design) will create and maintain audiovisual systems designs and line-drawings for general use classrooms, lecture halls, live event venues, digital signage, conference rooms, and other ITS-controlled spaces. The AV/IT Engineer (Systems Design) will leverage CAD, Revit, BOMs, 3D modeling, digital twin, and virtual environment tools to generate and document space designs for installation, project deliverables, and as-builts.

The AV/IT Engineer (Systems Design) will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by enabling University stakeholders to effectively leverage data and insights in service of the institution's academic mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA's vision while modeling UCLA's culture and values.

Salary & Compensation

Qualifications

3 years experience working in one or more of the following fields: audiovisual programming, audiovisual design, computer science, computer information systems, or related field. (Required) Experience servicing and troubleshooting new and legacy AV equipment. (Required) Experience working in a project-based environment using leading project management practices including schedule management, status reporting, and communication of project risks and issues. (Required) Experience participating in activities to advance an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. (Required) 5+ years experience working in one or more of the following fields: audiovisual programming, audiovisual design, computer science, computer information systems, etc. (Preferred) Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (Preferred) Ability to design AV solutions in CAD, Revit, and virtual tools, based on project specifications. (Required) Basic knowledge of network topology, equipment, and capabilities in an AV systems environment. (Required) Demonstrated ability to create AV flow diagrams, schematics and AV infrastructure drawings. (Required) Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations and ability to provide technical advice based on sound understanding of AV principles and practice. (Required) Knowledge of electronics theory with emphasis on audio, video and communications circuitry, AV IT control systems and signal flow. Knowledge of acoustic design theory. (Required) Strong written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate technical information and ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders. (Required) Able to establish and advance positive working relationships and a strong rapport with team members, stakeholders, and customers. (Required) Strong organizational skills and is able to balance competing priorities and support concurrent projects. (Required) Strong demonstrated problem-solving skills; scopes solutions based on knowledge of available resources and timelines. Able to ask questions, gather information, evaluate options, and make decisions with integrity. (Required) Thinks creatively and proposes innovative ideas, including the incorporation of new technologies or processes. Is able to work with agility in a fast-paced environment. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience/training in one or more of the following fields: information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration.
