TriVector Services, Inc. is seeking an Avionics Systems Engineer to support Missile Defense Agency Ground Based Mid course Defense Program efforts and provide Ground Systems engineering support directly related to the Ground Based Interceptor (GBI) avionics design engineering, guidance and navigation technologies and engineering documentation. The selected candidate will:

  • Execute system engineering functions with a focus on the Ground Based Interceptors avionics packages and guidance and navigation technologies evaluating designs, requirements, component enhancements, component failure review process and failure closure processes. Review proposed requirements changes in higher level specifications for impacts to Ground System (GS) baseline.

  • Review should be proactive and at all levels of the MDA organization (BMD System Spec, through GMD Element Spec, down to GS Spec) to ensure early identification of disconnects.

  • Review peer/counterpart specifications for consistency with GS baseline on sensors, C2BMC, and GBI performance specifications/interface specifications to ensure peer/counterpart documents accurately reflect the GS baseline.

  • Perform Systems engineering for Integration at the Element and Component Levels in accordance with the GM Systems Engineering Plan (SEP) and Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP).

  • Perform Systems Interface Integration and system timing analysis; Support Warfighter coordination and integration.

  • Work with component developers to review and assess verification plans for GS and GBI components including support equipment, facilities, and interfaces to other system elements.

  • Work with component and product developers to review and assess plans and processes for conducting design/critical Component/Product issue resolution.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelors in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field from an ABET-accredited institution is required.
  • 12+ years of related work experience with at least 9 years experience as a system engineer required.

Experience

Skills and experience should demonstrate:

  • 10+ years of experience with Ground Based Interceptor capabilities and enhancements with a focus on the GBI Avionics package.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver products on schedule.

  • Experience with Missile Defense Agency, preferred GMD experience / MDA Engineering and Interface requirements experience.

  • Capability to develop and present program briefings to senior management-level personnel.

  • Requires expert knowledge to effectively resolve highly complex and difficult hardware, software, and/or integration problems for devising unique solutions to meet client requirements.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to serve in a leadership role.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with team members, managers, and clients on highly complex and difficult engineering/software issues pertaining to assigned tasks.

Security clearance: Top Secret Preferred; U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.

Works with the Stages Element to resolve avionics flight hardware issues, supports contract modifications and evaluations, and supports launch readiness. Support includes the following: * Work closely with Stages Avionics Lead or delegate, Stages Deputy Chief Engineer for Avionics, Stages engineering, Stages Safety and Mission Assurance, and Stages prime contractor to resolve flight hardware issues discovered during vehicle integration, Green Run testing, and Stage integration testing at Kennedy Space Center. * Work closely with Stages Avionics Lead or delegate, Stages Deputy Chief Engineer for Avionics, Stages engineering, Stages Safety and Mission Assurance, and Space Launch System Program to prepare for launch including readiness reviews, design certification, and certification of flight readiness. * Provide support to the Stages Avionics Lead or delegate for contract technical evaluations, technical directives, task orders, contract performance. * Provide advice and recommendations relative to planning, schedules, risk and analyses to program decision makers. * Provide periodic status inputs to the Project and Engineering management. * Access to pre-decisional data may be part of this task. Non-Disclosure Agreement is required due to access to multiple SLS Elements planning information related to SLS and other launch providers. * Provide Core Stage avionics support (i.e., reviews, meetings, investigations, analyses, etc). Degree in Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D., with minimum of 24 years experience, a Masters with at least 28 years of experience, or Bachelors with at least 30 years of experience. * Experience in one of more of the following areas: avionics flight hardware, avionics launch readiness, or avionics launch operations is required. * Experience with contract technical evaluation, technical direction, statement of work, task order, etc. is required. * Proficient with oral and written communication skills is required * Experience with NASA launch readiness or flight hardware support is highly desirable. * Ability to work with the Stages contractor to compile and present details of a technical issue, in a logical, understandable, concise manner which is targeted for the audience is highly desirable. * Ability to work in a team environment, consisting of government and contractors, and build collaborative relationships within and across organizations is highly desirable. * Ability to work in a leadership role supporting government/customer interests to contractors and other NASA center organizations is highly desirable. * Ability to lead a team through technical challenges in a complex protocol and political environment while establishing and maintaining open and honest relationships is highly desirable.
