Under the direct supervision of the Office of Student Support Services and school administrators, the AVID tutor is responsible for facilitating the AVID program related to the tutorial learning process, implementing methodologies, and supporting the college readiness system at middle and high schools during the school day. AVID tutors provide supplemental instructional face-to-face and/or online tutoring services to assigned students individually and/or in study groups in a face-to-face and/or virtual environment.
Interested applicants must have:
Completed at least one year (30 credit hours or more) of successful college experience
Exhibit academic qualifications with at least a 2.8 cumulative grade point average in college
Possess communication and relationship skills to support middle and high school students
Education, counseling, and STEM majors are preferred
Model attributes of the ideal AVID student who is motivated, organized, punctual, and collaborative.
If eligible, the part-time position is from October 16, 2023, through June 7, 2024.

Applicants must also complete the Child Abuse and Neglect Training (CANT) to be eligible for employment consideration. This training, which takes about an hour to complete, is available at no charge through web instruction at http://www.dss.virginia.gov/family/cps/mandated_reporters/cwse5691/story.html. Upon completion of the training, you should print your certificate and scan and post it with other attachments to verify that you have met the requirement.
