Position: AVID Teacher
Location: Vance County High School, Henderson, NC

Job Summary:
Vance County High School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated AVID Teacher to join our team. The AVID Teacher will be responsible for implementing the AVID program to prepare students for college readiness and success, particularly those traditionally underrepresented in higher education. The ideal candidate will be passionate about educational equity and committed to fostering a supportive and rigorous learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Implementation:
Implement the AVID curriculum with fidelity, following AVID strategies and methodologies.
Foster a classroom culture that emphasizes the AVID principles of writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading (WICOR).
Use AVID instructional methodologies to develop students' critical thinking, literacy, and math skills.
Instruction:
Develop and deliver engaging, student-centered lessons that incorporate AVID strategies.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
Monitor and support students' academic progress, providing timely and constructive feedback.
Student Support:
Act as an advocate for AVID students, providing academic and social support.
Guide students in goal-setting, organization, and time management skills.
Facilitate AVID tutorials and collaborate with tutors to support student learning.
Collaboration:
Work closely with AVID site team and other faculty members to promote and integrate AVID strategies school-wide.
Participate in AVID professional development and training sessions.
Collaborate with counselors and administrators to identify and recruit potential AVID students.
Assessment and Data:
Assess student performance and progress using a variety of formative and summative assessments.
Maintain accurate records of student progress and program participation.
Use data to inform instruction and improve program effectiveness.
Professional Responsibilities:
Maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment.
Engage in continuous professional growth and development.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and program goals.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a related field.
Certification:
Valid North Carolina teaching license or eligibility to obtain licensure. AVID certification is preferred but not required; training will be provided.
Experience:
Previous teaching experience preferred, especially in a diverse or high-needs educational setting.
Experience with AVID or similar programs is a plus.
Skills:
Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
Ability to build relationships and work effectively with diverse student populations.
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
