This position requires a Bachelor's degree in education or related field from an accredited college or university. Master's degree preferred. A minimum of 3 years teaching experience is required.
This position requires some knowledge of AVID mission and structure. Incumbent should be able to plan, manage, and guide a wide variety of stakeholders to common goal, design and coordinate projects/programs. Incumbent should have the ability to organize a start-up project and demonstrate initiative, coordinate large events, and communicate and present effectively. This position requires proficiency in working with others as a team, organizing and maintaining records, and managing resources effectively. Organization, follow-through, and computer skills such as Microsoft Office are critical.
JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
This position is responsible for facilitating the high quality implementation of the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program in Austin ISD. This includes strategic planning, developing and communicating a long term vision, building buy-in, making policy recommendations, and developing new funding streams and strategic partnerships to ensure the success and sustainability of AVID and/or AVID Elementary. Incumbent works with campus principals in providing supervision, guidance and technical assistance to AVID teachers and administrators, as well as creating development plans of campuses yet to be certified.
Works with the AVID District Coordinator and AVID Center to coordinate training and networking for AVID sites. Meets with campus team to facilitate progress towards goals identified in the site plan.
Ensures that AVID program components are implemented according to the AVID model and supports the development of site conditions that ensure effective AVID implementation.
Develops strategic plans to smoothly rollout implementation at existing and new AVID sites. .
Trains and supports the AVID site coordinators (principal or another designated administrator), facilitates team participation in AVID Summer Institute.
Provides professional development.
Plans and follows AISD budget and purchasing procedures with direction from the AVID District Coordinator.
Attends family workshops and events on campuses.
Collaborates with principals to promote institutionalization of AVID, monitors the district's AVID certification process for assigned AVID campuses, and manages curriculum alignment efforts.
Coordinates analysis and collection of data as guided by AVID Center and the AVID Texas State Office, as well as AVID District coordinator and AISD.
Responds to media requests as appropriate.
Attends regional AVID Center trainings and professional development opportunities to stay abreast of new developments in AVID and/or AVID Elementary.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:
Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Services are generally provided at schools working with students, teachers, administrators, and parents. Incumbent may be required to work hours in addition to the regular school day
and must have a Driver's License because travel will be required between schools. This position may involve rare exposure to blood or bodily fluids. Regular attendance is required for this position.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
This position works under the general supervision of the District AVID Coordinator and under the Executive Director of Academics and Social & Emotional Learning. Incumbent will have frequent contact with AVID Center staff, AISD.
