CHA Consulting, Inc. is currently seeking an Aviation Project Engineer to join our Aviation Services Group in our Atlanta, GA office and an Aviation Project Engineer to join our Aviation Services Group in either our Parsippany, NJ or New York, NY office.These positions will work with CHA's Aviation Technical Services Team and will be responsible for aviation projects from inception to completion at a variety of airports ranging in size from general aviation facilities to large-hub commercial service airports, and at Department of Defense airfields.

The Aviation Project Engineer will work with a team of designers, engineers, planners, and technicians to support other aviation teams throughout CHA's national network of offices.


  • Serve as a lead technical engineer and/or task manager on a variety of aviation development projects, assisting project managers with technical design development and execution.

  • Participate in the production of high-quality exhibits, construction plans, construction specifications, permits, and reports to effectively communicate the design to clients, agency representatives, and construction contractors.

  • Develop project delivery milestone schedules for projects.

  • Assist with administration of construction services including such tasks as shop drawing review, responding to contractor requests for information, cost proposal development and evaluation, and other construction-related duties.

  • Effectively manage individual in conjunction with project budget.

  • Contribute significantly to the overall success of the team and team's projects.


  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required.

  • Professional Engineering license is preferred.


  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in aviation, civil/site, and/or transportation-related fields.

  • Excellent technical writing skills is a must.

  • Ability to efficiently operate AutoCAD and Civil 3D is required, advanced plan production and/or modeling experience a plus.

  • Knowledge of FARs, FAA Advisory Circulars, FAA orders, Unified Facilities Criteria and Unified Facilities Guide Specifications that apply to airport planning, design, and construction are a plus.

  • Experience with developing estimate of construction quantities and costs is a must.

  • Experience with developing construction sequencing and/or safety and phasing plans a plus.

  • Proficiency with the MS Office Suite is a must.

  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Work well independently as well as with others in a team environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Some travel required.

Burns & McDonnell is looking for an Aviation Technology Systems Project Manager that has a desire to apply their technical experience, while actively engaging their entrepreneurial spirit. This position is responsible for planning, designing, implementing, integrating, and testing airport technology systems projects. The job requires that approximately 85% of time is spent developing and implementing projects for Burns & McDonnell clients, and 15% assisting other project managers and marketing staff in securing new work through preparation of technology-specific proposals. You will represent the company by consulting with and delivering services to clients. You may also author articles and present company capabilities in both large and small venues. You must be able to perform tasks requiring application of standard engineering techniques and procedures to airport technology systems such as flight information, passenger processing, baggage processing, building automation, command and control, access control, and surveillance. Your curiosity will keep you up to date with new technologies and procedures for airport operations. You will assist lead engineers and project managers with other project duties as assigned. Directs and coordinates activities of several disciplines on a project of moderate scope or a combination of smaller projects. Direct coordination with clients and other external clients. May initiate or assist in contract negotiations or preparation. Assist in direction of project planning, budgeting and establishing critical project objectives. Other duties as assigned. A bachelor's degree in information technology, industrial engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, physics or another related field from an accredited program is required. Minimum 7 years of related experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience). Aviation, airport and airline, experience is strongly preferred. Strong analytical and problem solving skills supported by excellent written & verbal communication skills are mandatory. Must have ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of industry, government and public contracts on project-related matters.
