Gallatin College is seeking a Program Director for the Aviation Program; this Program Director oversees the Associate of Applied Science in Aviation. The Program Director for Aviation has teaching responsibilities and will administer overall operations for the program. This is an academic year (nine month) tenure track faculty contract.

Duties and Responsibilities

Recruit, hire, supervise and manage non-tenure track adjunct faculty to ensure quality of instruction meets industry and accreditation standards in accordance with college policies.
Coordinate program activities alongside Gallatin College administration, faculty, and staff.
Develop and implement the request, purchase and maintenance of instructional equipment for the program.
Foster positive student and community relations, including coordination of the Aviation Advisory board.
Monitor and research national trends in aviation programs to ensure quality services and course offerings to a broad range of students.
Evaluate success of program on an annual basis to include current student, alumni, and employer satisfaction, based on assessments of students, and employers.
Make the necessary improvements to the program.
Teach twelve-thirteen credits per semester.
Seek relevant industry certification that ensures quality and industry connection.
Prepare reports as necessary for internal and external review (FAA).
Coordinate with flight training provider and understand the value of this model of flight training.
Serve on campus committees to foster a supportive institutional climate and an informed faculty and staff support network.
Serve on aviation related committees.
Work close with Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport.
Attend University Aviation Association (UAA) conference.
Work closely with State agencies related to aviation.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Hold a current Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certificate.
Meet Chief Flight Instructor requirements as outlined in FAA Part 141
Hold a commercial pilot certificate or an airline transport pilot certificate.
Associate degree in Aviation.
Ability to learn flight management software.
Attention to detail to maintain detailed records for FAA approved ground school.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Have a CFII or IGI certification or can obtain within 6 months.
To be eligible for designation as chief instructor for a ground school course, a person must have 1 year of experience as a ground school instructor at a certificated pilot school.
Meet Chief Flight Instructor requirements as outlined in FAA Part 141.35 or can obtain within 12 months. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-14/chapter-I/subchapter-H/part-141/subpart-B/section-141.35

Bachelor's degree in Aviation or related degree.
Ability to learn Learning Management Software such as D2L or Canvas

Demonstrate awareness of trends in the aviation industry as it relates to pilots.
Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with colleagues, contractors, vendors, and outside collaborators.
Have an appreciation of diverse constituencies and add intellectual diversity to the department.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information
Evening work schedule and hours may be required. Special events and work during those special events will be required, such as student-centered events like graduation or community events.
