The mission of the State Aviation Division is to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of State Government by providing safe and professional aviation support. Reducing travel time and increasing productivity for the State executives is a primary goal of the Aviation Division.

The Aviation Division is hiring an Aircraft Pilot, specifically a Fixed Wing (Airplane) Pilot who will perform the following:

  • Plan missions after considering such factors as altitude, terrain, weather, range, weight, airport facilities, and navigational aids.

  • Pilot aircraft; determine flight routes; coordinate landings and take-off times and places.

  • Oversee and/or participate in pre-flight and post-flight inspections of the power plant, airframe, and related equipment for mechanical and structural soundness and for proper operation of all auxiliary equipment, including communications and navigational systems.

  • Provide aerial support to ground crews involved in law enforcement activities; report via radio such information as results of aerial search missions, location and movement of suspects, fugitives, and/or individuals involved in illicit activities, direct best routes to follow for apprehension.

  • Serve as a security officer when transporting or escorting government officials.

  • Execute precision flying in piloting aircraft for the vertical, oblique, continuous strip, and other types of aerial photography.

  • Maintain comprehensive logs, reports, and records of aircraft operation, including cost, mileage, fuel consumption, maintenance repairs, flight time, etc.

  • Coordinate and fly marijuana missions (seasonally); give court testimony in relation to missions. Patrol assigned areas to detect illicit activities.

  • Oversee and participate in the maintenance and repair of assigned aircraft. Oversee fueling or aircraft.

  • May prepare on-call and regular work schedules.

Training: High school diploma or equivalent and sufficient flight training to meet FAA licensing requirements. Preference may be given to candidates with a degree related to aviation and/or aeronautics from a regionally accredited college or university and/or current FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification.

Experience: For fixed-wing aircraft, completion of a minimum of 1,500 hours of fixed-wing flight time.

Of the 1,500 hours, 750 hours must be multi-engine, 100 hours must be certified instrument weather flying, and 100 hours must be night flying. For rotary-wing aircraft, completion of a minimum of 1,000 hours of rotary-wing flight time.

Of the 1,000 hours, 100 hours must be night flying.

Special Requirements: Possession of FAA Commercial and/or Airline Transport Pilot's license.

Rotarywing pilots must possess FAA rotorcraft rating. Fixed-wing pilots must possess FAA airplane single and/or multi-engine and instrument rating. Possession of current FAA Class I or Class II medical certificate.
