Responsibilities

This position is ideal for an expert Customs and Border Protection (CBP) law enforcement agent with significant experience in air interdiction operations. This position starts at a salary of $87,252.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $113,428.00 (GS-13, Step 10).

COLA- For areas that have cost of living allowances (COLA) vice locality pay the appropriate COLA will be added to the General Scale Salary not the RUS charts. Please see the following link for specific COLA

In this position you will conduct aviation law enforcement activities. Typical work assignments include:

  • Serving as a law enforcement officer on AMO aircraft and at branches, centers and units; planning methods of surveillance and intercepting illegal activity

  • Leading and coordinating activities with interagency staffs, to include conducting preliminary investigations, identifying suspects, search and arrest, interrogations, and testifying in courts of law

  • Operating technologically advanced systems, such as data display and transfer systems, communications systems, electro-optical systems, infrared detectors, laser systems, night vision goggles, and radars

  • Collecting and analyzing intelligence data to develop comprehensive detailed intelligence reports for dissemination within and outside AMO

  • Performing special operator functions from the National Air Security Operations Center as needed

Qualifications

GS-13: You qualify if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience such as: serving as a primary law enforcement agent on DHS interdiction aircraft; operating technologically advanced systems such as laser systems, infrared detectors and radars to aid in detecting targets of interest; evaluating intelligence to determine aviation smuggling patterns; writing concise, in-depth narrative reports to assist government prosecutors.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must:

  • Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and

  • Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 10/10/2018.

Polygraph Examination: The Aviation Enforcement Agent position is a polygraph-required position. If you are not a current CBP employee in a law enforcement position, you may be required to take a polygraph exam and have favorable results in order to continue in the pre-employment process. Polygraph Reciprocity: CBP may accept the results of a prior federal polygraph exam in lieu of a CBP polygraph exam. You will receive information to request reciprocity in your Background Investigation Package.

Polygraph Waiver: Certain veterans may be eligible to obtain a polygraph waiver. You will receive information to request a waiver in your Background Investigation Package.

Probationary Period: Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.

Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) Eligibles: If you have never worked for the Federal Government, you are not CTAP eligible. Information about CTAP eligibility can be found here. You must submit the supporting documents listed in the "Required Documents" section of this announcement. In addition, to be considered well qualified under CTAP, you must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities and/or competencies clearly exceeding the minimum requirements of the position. This will be measured by a score of 85 or higher.
