Overview
We are seeking a full-time Aviation Datalink Systems Engineer in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for focusing on air-to-ground communication systems, research, design, develop, test and support these systems.
Essential Functions
Lead development of datalink products, systems, and services.
Engineering support of product development and testing.
Work with software teams to make sure designs are correct, up-to-date, and complete.
Plan and execute testing to validate system requirements and user experience.
Capture scope, lead planning and track progress of systems engineering activities in a comprehensive schedule.
Show compliance to industry standards via traceability matrices, reports, and compliance statements.
Work with regulatory (e.g. FAA, EASA, ANAC) and industry bodies (e.g. ARINC, SITA) to learn and incorporate new and evolving air-to-ground communication systems.
Work with network and data providers to ensure Garmin's systems are operating properly.
Provide technical support to Garmin's customers.
Provide technical content for system design/description documentation.
Effectively communicate development status to customers.
Manage risks and opportunities.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or a related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Must possess demonstrated knowledge, education, and/or training of basic circuits (Digital, FPGA, Analog and/or RF)
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Superior organizational/analytical skills with keen attention to detail/quality and must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others, ensuring successful achievement of company goals
Desired Qualifications
Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5) and focused education or experience with communication or networking systems.
Experience in software development, scripting, and/or tooling (e.g. C, Python).
Aviation flight or operations experience.
Experience with aviation design assurance processes for system, software or hardware (ARP 4754, DO-178, DO-254).
Experience with air-to-ground datalink communication systems (e.g. VDLM2, CPDLC, ACARS, etc.).
Experience with DOORs or other requirement management tools.
