AV Design Engineer Salary: 24.81-48.70 Job Type: Career Department Name: 4953-OID CLASSROOM SERVICES Department Website URL: https://www.teaching.ucla.edu/about/learning-spaces Job Summary Statement: Under the supervision of the Manager of Classroom Technology Design & Maintenance, the AV Design Engineer applies user-centered design processes, industry standards, campus direction, and best practices to create, evaluate and modify designs and prototypes in support of audio visual (AV) systems design.
In addition, the incumbent serves as the project manager on classroom AV installation projects. The position will require that the candidate actively participates in the design process for multiple, concurrent projects while ensuring efficiency, accuracy and quality of work.
Major responsibilities include: research, design, and coordinate technology installations and upgrades for new, renovated and upgraded classrooms; develop high-quality audiovisual infrastructure, construction, and systems signal flow drawings with sufficient detail to inform integrators/technicians; and work with other units within OID-ETS and the general campus to integrate classroom technology into the university's teaching mission to ensure that UCLA's classrooms and other learning spaces represent the best practices within the higher education community. Additional responsibilities include working in teams to research, design, install and support systems for lecture capture, web and mobile based remote monitoring and troubleshooting, and other classroom and learning environment technologies. The AV Design Engineer also provides the department, faculty and project teams with consultation, support, technical expertise, and training in the use of classroom instructional technology. Bachelor's degree in instructional technology, information technology or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated organizational development and projection management skills.
In-depth and broad knowledge of computing technologies, audio visual equipment, and audio/visual control systems.
Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
Demonstrated commitment to customer service in a technical environment.
Demonstrated progressively-responsible experience in the following: technology support services, collaborating with other units as well as vendors, budget management experience and project management experience.
Knowledge of instructional methods and the uses of technology to enhance that instruction.
Demonstrated understanding of aesthetic design practices.
Basic knowledge of information technology applications.
Demonstrated strategic planning experience.
Vendor or industry associate certification in electronic presentation design and installation (e.g. CTS, CTS-D).
Knowledge of Crestron equipment and control systems programming.
