Based at our Chester, PA facility, we seek a dedicated individual who is able to safely and efficiently operate their assigned equipment in accordance with the established plant operating procedures. They will be responsible for the operation and inspection of various systems and equipment as assigned.

Normally, their assigned areas will include the boilers and associated systems such as fans, grates, ash and air pollution control systems, the demineralizer, and the testing of water chemistry. In addition, the Auxiliary Operator will perform the duties of crane operator.

They are also responsible for recording data, reporting equipment malfunctions or trends, which indicate possible trouble, and performing actions as directed to correct abnormal operating conditions or emergency situations.

The Auxiliary Operator will work under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor and the direction of the Control Room Operator.

Position Requirements

The position of Auxiliary Operator requires a HS Diploma /GED and at least three years previous experience with high pressure boilers and electric generating equipment. Formal technical training is also required. Previous power plant experience is preferred.

Individual will be required to complete the necessary training in order for him/her to operate equipment. Individual will also assist the other operators during upset or any non-typical conditions as they arise during shift.

Covanta is an Equal Opportunity Employer. * Audit daily plant operations for adherence to operating zone parameters, and advise facility management of any deviations from the specified settings. * Perform all necessary QA/QC functions to facilitate the mechanical integrity of the operating equipment Process will include thorough outage inspections, appropriate failure analysis and adequate reporting mechanisms. * Stays connected to recommendations in Boiler Condition Assessment Reports generated by the Boiler Reliability Group. These reports are updated with each major outage and/or equipment inspection. * Challenge the performance of the facility and its component systems through the use of available engineering resources, operating history and industry standards and practices. * Ensure that facility management is presented with such challenges in a clear manner and supportive of their operating requirements. * Coordinate and prioritize all resources necessary to guide the technical progress of the facility and ensure that it adheres to a path of sound operating and engineering practice as well as complying with the company O&M philosophy. Resources may include the use of third party services where they do not exist or are in short supply within the organization. In addition, the Plant Engineer will coordinate the review and approval of any physical changes to the facility. * Manage multiple projects through all phases, including conceptual design, detailed design, writing of equipment and construction specifications, selection of equipment and contractors, and managing the construction phase * GENERAL The Plant Engineer at each facility has the role of being the technical conscience of the company and the local facility. Effectiveness shall be determined by the operating performance of the facility to which he or she is assigned. The advice given to facility management must be objective and technically sound and not influenced by local preferences. The Plant Engineer maintains an open channel of communication with the regional engineer.
