POSITION SUMMARY: Provide technical assistance with autopsy procedures and assist with managing body holding area and morgue.
Associates degree in life sciences or equivalent, Bachelors degree preferred.
One (1) year relevant work experience Knowledge of medical terminology, basic human anatomy, autopsy dissection, suturing as well as handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals.
Understanding of regulatory standards as set forth by CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, CMS, OSHA, and CLSI.
Good computer skills are a must.
SKILLS: Ability to assist with autopsy procedures as directed.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
Must have skill to use personal computers and lab IS software applications.
Must be team player.
Professional interaction with pathologists.
POSITION DUTIES: Assists with autopsy procedures including but not limited to case scheduling, charting, body retrieval, pre and post procedure preparation, instrumentation and equipment set up as well as assistance throughout the entire autopsy procedure including photographing, processing and grossing specimens, post-operative closure of the body, and cleaning the morgue and instruments upon completion of the procedure.
Maintains, stores, archives and disposes tissue samples according to accreditation guidelines.
Prepares and packages specimens for send out when required.
Records and maintains autopsy data, including monitoring turnaround times for PAD and FAD Oversees daily operations of the morgue processes which includes maintaining inventory and supplies, communicating with appropriate staff to ensure proper mangement of decedents, collaborates with tissue and organ procurement agencies, and performs other duties as assigned.
