WR Systems seeks a Principal level Autonomy Software/Systems engineer to lead the design, development, and testing for next-generation U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs).

Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Leads the design and development for creation of Autonomy software products.

  • Creates designs that support mission-critical system requirements with the highest levels of reliability, performance and security.

  • Incorporates Open Architecture (OA) principles to enable integration into a platform-level infrastructure.

  • Incorporates Human System Integration (HSI) concepts required to optimize human performance.

  • Uses a Modular Open-Systems Approach (MOSA) to support efficient technology insertion and refresh.

  • Designs the overall software system architecture roadmap.

  • Develops whitepapers and proposals in pursuit of new business opportunities.

  • Works as a strong individual technical contributor, lead teams as needed, and provide subject matter expertise across the system development lifecycle.

  • Develops autonomy behaviors for tasks such as navigation, path planning, obstacle avoidance, payload management, and health management.

  • Implements graphical interfaces for user interaction and data visualization.

  • Monitors and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes.

  • Performs on-site testing and debugging of systems.

Candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • Bachelors of Science in at least one of the following:

o Computer/Software engineering

o Computer Science

o Electrical

o Math

o Physics

o related scientific discipline.

  • Six (6)+ or more year in software/systems development.

  • Experience implementing autonomy algorithms and behaviors for areas such as maritime navigation, 3-dimensional path planning, obstacle detection and avoidance, and controls.

  • Experience with development and architecting, developing applications, including user interface and data layer development.

  • Experience with system of systems, complex, systems, or model-based systems engineering.

  • Experience with multiple program languages (e.g. C++, C, Java, Python, JavaScript, Shell Scripting, HTML).

  • Strong scripting skills (e.g., Linux Command Line, Python, Shell Scripting).

  • Experience with multiple operating systems (e.g. Linux, Windows, Embedded Systems).

  • Experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware, Virtual Box, and Docker).

  • Experience with networking (OSI network layers, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), User Datagram Protocol (UDP)).

  • Experience with Application Lifecycle Management and Source Code Control (e.g. Git, Jira).

  • Experience with Google Protocol Buffers.

  • Strong knowledge of design patterns and data structures.

  • Experience developing fault-tolerant software for mission critical systems.

  • Experience writing firmware for embedded devices.

  • Experience with operation and test of:

o marine craft systems (engines, alternators, bilge pumps, hydraulics)

o radio communication systems

o power control and distribution systems (converters, inverters, chargers, circuit breakers, power conditioning, isolation).

  • Experience with the integration of sensors (radar, lidar, cameras and navigation).

Ability to obtain and maintain an Secret Security Clearance.

VIEW JOBS 3/13/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-06-11T00:00 W R Systems, Ltd. has a need for a Field Representative, Principal (SUB NAVCERT) for an extremely exciting and challenging position representing the Navigation Systems ISEA (In Service Engineering Activity) in the performance of Navigation Certifications (NAVCERT) and Field Change upgrades on US Navy Submarines. Position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: * Conducts both dockside and at sea tests, analyze collected data and be able to identify and resolve installation, technical and procedural problems. * Provides expertise to resolve Navigation system interface issues with other shipboard systems and assist with the development and updating of all required documentation and procedures. * Travels to sponsors' sites as a technical representative of project, conduct field tests, interpret and evaluate field data, and serve as a liaison with industrial, governmental, and other sponsors. * Prepares status, progress, and final reports for projects, describing the results of field experiments and/or inspections. * Light-off, configures, tests, troubleshoots, and operates primary systems and peripheral equipment in support of project. * Verifies functionality of newly installed equipment and evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions. * Continuously develops skills with new technology and systems relevant to on-going and anticipated projects. * Maintains and continuously seeks improvements to test procedures and processes for maximum efficiency, safety, and quality. * Provides oversight and on-the-job training to lower level technicians. * Provides input to Project Managers for proposals and Statements of Work. Candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills, and experience: * Eight (8)+ years of hands-on experience with US Navy Navigation equipment and systems, to include three (3) of the following four (4) areas: o Systems Requirements, o Operational Requirements, o Test & Evaluation, and o Training. * Recognized expert who has demonstrated industry and public service leadership in US Navy Navigation equipment and systems. * Four (4)+ years' experience in Navigation and DT&E. * Three (3)+ years of testing support to DoD Acquisition. * Two (2)+ years of experience providing technical guidance to lower level technicians. * Technical Training in US Navy Navigation equipment and systems. * Knowledge and experience with the installation and operation of: o AN/WSN-7A & 7B o ECDU o VMS(ECDIS-N) o EM Log o DEML o DHSYL o other related shipboard Combat Systems equipment. * Prefer proven management/leadership experience in the support of testing and evaluation of submarine navigation systems. * Must possess exceptional attention to detail and coordination skills and have the confidence and communication skills to brief senior shipboard personnel on the status of all requirements and issues. * Experience with management of installations of electronic Tempalts, Ordalts, and Shipalts, including estimating, tracking, reporting, and directing. Active Secret Security Clearance required. 50% Travel required.
