Diagnose and repair to specifications - brake and hydraulic, exhaust, primary and/or advanced fuel ignition and electrical, suspension and alignment, air conditioning and computer systems

Adequately explain technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals

Stay current with rapidly changing automotive technology through continuous paid formal training

Assist and train technicians/mechanics in performing technical activities

Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements for Advanced Technician

  • Reading, writing and math skills

  • Must have a valid automobile driver's license at all times and be able to drive customer and company vehicles

  • Must have a minimum 5 years of automotive repair experience, completion of Vocational-Technical School program in a related field or demonstrated skills via third party certificates/assessment

  • A.S.E. certification in at least 5 (five) of A1-A8 (L1 can be one of the five) is required. (New hires with external similar qualifications/certifications will have up to 2 years of employment to comply)

  • Maintains Federal, State and Local certification/license where applicable

  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people

VIEW JOBS 6/13/2021 12:00:00 AM 2021-09-11T00:00 DESCRIPTION Performs skilled tasks in repairing and maintaining facility equipment, gasoline or diesel driven equipment (wheeled and track) within the guidelines of departmental standards and procedures, verbal instructions, and manufacturers' guidance. Incumbents in this class serve in a formal role as a lead worker and is responsible for the most complex work orders. Works with other departmental employees and customers to provide maintenance support. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned co-workers: confers with supervisor to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities; organizes tasks in order to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with co-workers; assists with complex situations and provides technical expertise; assists with training and instructing co-workers regarding operational procedures and proper use of equipment. * Performs routine and complex repairs on trucks and heavy equipment: gathers information from equipment operator reports, fault codes and other diagnostic data; troubleshoots and diagnoses problems; identifies items needing repair; completes required repairs; and ensures operation and performance is within specified limits. * Performs preventive maintenance on trucks and heavy equipment: checks and replaces fluids; drains and replaces oil; collects and recovers Freon; changes and replaces filters; lubricates mechanical parts; installs and replaces blades; rotates, mounts and balances tires; replaces tires, belts, and hoses; checks and replaces batteries; greases equipment; flushes radiators; and performs tune-ups or other preventative maintenance activities as assigned. Performs or coordinates warranty repairs on vehicles and equipment. * Performs inspections: inspects and tests truck and heavy equipment systems, including drive train, engine operation, transmission operation, suspension, steering, brakes, electrical system, HVAC and emissions; completes or revises work order for repairs; obtains required parts; performs emission tests per frequency and criteria specified by state law; inspects and tests completed work; and updates required records. * Determines amount of materials required for projects: gathers equipment, parts and supplies; assists in monitoring inventory levels of parts, equipment, tools or supplies; and initiates requests for new or replacement materials. * Operates or uses various machinery, equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments; and operates and maintains basic mechanics tool kit and/or vehicle-specific maintenance tool sets. * Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. with vocational training in automobile mechanics and repair. Associates degree preferred. Experience:Five (5) years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: * Considerable knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of servicing and repairing equipment drivetrains, suspensions, braking systems, heating and air conditioning, electrical, air, hydraulic, tracked, and other related systems; the use and operation of tools and machinery used in equipment repair work, the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. * Considerable proficiency in diagnosing malfunctions or defects in equipment, adapting available tools and parts to specific repair problems and interpreting technical instructions from manufacturer's manuals and bulletins or other related data. * Ability to properly complete written and computerized repair order documentation. * Ability to utilize computerized maintenance management systems * Demonstrated ability to work independently. * Possess ability to train designated subordinate personnel. * Possess ability to deal directly with customers and vendors. * Proficiency in AED, CPR, and first aid. * Ability to work irregular hours and shift times, including holidays. * Skilled in welding. * Good communication skills, both oral and written. * Proficient in the use of common office equipment and commonly used computer software (word processing, email, spreadsheets). LICENSING/CERTIFICATION: * Master ASE T series certification required or five (5) years' experience in heavy equipment repairs and the ability to possess Master ASE T series certification within (1) year. * Refrigerant Recycle/Recovery certification preferred. * Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment. * Possess or have the ability to obtain a CDL Class B License with HazMat endorsement within twenty-four (24) months of employment. OTHER This position does require staff call up in an emergency situation.
