The Virginia Department of State Police is seeking qualified applicants for a Automation Test Analyst in the Information and Communication Technologies Division located in North Chesterfield, Virginia. This is an Exempt position; therefore, this position is excluded from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act due to the nature of duties and job responsibilities.

NOTE: This position represents the average statewide salary for this position. Actual compensation is based on candidate's specific knowledge, skill, abilities, experience, and education as related to this particular position. DUTIES: Designs and develops automation test strategies that fully encompass the scope and objective of the test engagement.

Develops automation scripts using Selenium as per the framework and build reliable automation regression suite. Develops functional and API automation using cucumber w/Java. Develops reusable and maintainable automation scripts as per the standards.

Creates Automated testing scripts/Manual Test Cases to ensure software and other components are operating as designed and per the functional requirements. Creates test data and expected results. Conducts automation code walkthrough and scenario coverage.

Schedules periodic code reviews with QA lead/manager to ensure the coding standards are met. Reviews test results for accuracy and completeness and get approval from SME on the test coverage. Identifies Stake Holders and communicates testing progress periodically.

Supports testing efforts including User Acceptance Testing. Responsible for the writing, implementation and status reporting for system test cases including both automated and manual test cases. Develops, maintains and upgrades automated test scripts and architectures for test application products.

Performs backend and integration testing involving multiple systems. Supports defect management procedures and bug tracking tools. Works with developers on the resolution of defects.

Identifies and performs regression testing after defects are fixed to ensure application integrity. Ensures training for self. Keeps up to date on programming languages and technology related to the IT industry.

Assists and provides direction to co-workers in using new techniques and in solving their more complex technical problems. Performs other duties as assigned. Safety issues are reviewed and communicated to assure a safe and healthy workplace.

Safety is discussed as required at meetings, unsafe conditions are corrected, and unsafe acts are not tolerated. Participates in effective continuity of operations planning by serving as a member of the Continuation Team.

Minimum Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Considerable knowledge of software testing best practices and methodologies and scripting languages using open source technologies such as Selenium, Cucumber, and Java.

Skill in operating a computer and using Microsoft Office applications, and automated testing frameworks and testing tools. Demonstrated ability to develop software testing strategies, data migration testing, integration and back end database testing, performance testing, SOAP UI and web services load testing; to design and develop automation test strategies that fully encompass the scope and objective of the test engagement; to develop functional and API automation using cucumber w/Java; to conduct automation code walkthrough and scenario coverage; to develop reusable and maintainable automation scripts as per the standards; to develop automation scripts using Selenium as per the framework and build reliable automation regression suite; to create testing scripts to ensure software and other components are operating as designed and per the functional requirements; to create test data and expected results; to schedule periodic code reviews with QA lead/manager to ensure the coding standards are met; to execute test scripts, record and review test results and use test effort estimation and defect tracking tools; to review test results for accuracy and completeness and get approval from SME on coverage; to meet tight deadlines while meeting quality requirements; to create test acceptance criteria and work with manual testing team to find efficiencies to reduce manual/repeated testing effort; and to interact in a team environment and communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English. High School Diploma or GED and an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position required.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with major study in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred. Extensive software development experience with relational databases, XML and SQL. Considerable experience as a QA Test Automation Analyst on a large software development project.

Experience with JIRA tool for test preparation, execution, and defect management. H1-B Visa Applicants ? Agency practice disallows sponsorship. POLYGRAPH EXAMINATION, BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, FINGERPRINT-BASED CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK AND PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREENING REQUIRED SUBJECT TO RANDOM DRUG SCREENING Elements of the selection process for this position will also include the screening of applications; interviewing of qualified candidates; and salary negotiations.

The pre-employment process can take approximately up to three (3) months to complete. The anticipated duration of this process is determined by the successful completion of the above items. Applicants must live in states east of the Mississippi River. Military applicants must live in or home of record must be in one of the states east of the Mississippi River.
