Job Description

Creates and/or oversees moderate to highly complex instrumentation, controls and related systems designs using 3D and 4D programs. Develops technical memoranda related to design issues for clients.

Prepares preliminary design reports (PDRs). Coordinates designs reconciliation with clients. Creates moderate to highly complex human- machine interface (HMI) designs, programmable logic controllers (PLC), reports, etc. Prepares level of effort estimates (LOEs). Assists in the testing and startup of instrumentation, controls, and related systems.

Develops systems training for end users. Recognized leader of technical and professional staff. Leads project teams and reviews the work of junior staff as necessary.

Provides mentoring to junior staff such as giving feedback on technical issues, client relationships and career/organizational issues. Participates in the Automation Community of Practice (CoP); focuses on an area of specialty (e.g., communications, networking, instrumentation, security) and strives to become a subject matter expert. May serve in the Sr.

Technical Advisor role or otherwise participate in the CoP committee. Oversees and directs new business development activities. Prepares proposals and presentations.

Prepares scope and budgets. Supports marketing and new business activities as requested in support the Automation strategy. Collaborates in the development of the overall Automation strategy.

Reviews basic to highly complex component level shop drawings. Provides responses to requests for information (RFIs) under supervision. Performs field acceptance testing (FATs) and field inspections. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. 12 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

Responsible for Substation engineering including detailed design for high voltage substation projects through 345kV including:

  • Protective relay schemes

  • Relay Schematics and wiring diagrams

  • Equipment specifications and selection

  • Hardware specifications and selection, including SCADA/RTU components

  • Knowledge of NESC & NEC

  • Substation grounding grid design & lightning protection
