Wastequip has an immediate opening for a Automation Engineer located at either our Eagleville, TN, or Tyler Texas manufacturing location. The Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining the necessary controls systems to assist with improvement initiatives at various production and operational levels. Travel to other sites is required (25% travel). This is a full-time position with great benefits including but not limited to Health Insurance, 401K Plan, Paid Vacation/Sick time, and so much more.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, validate and install control systems which include but are not limited to pneumatics, servos, variable frequency drives, relays, HMI touchscreens and other various PLC-based hardware and software.

  • Build action plans to drive project timelines, understanding which projects to prioritize based on the most critical impact to the business. You will partner with operations, maintenance, and engineering to deliver technical projects.

  • Work with the Manufacturing Engineering and Operational Excellence teams to drive improvement activities as they relate to controls and automation in the production environment.

  • Working with the Automation Technicians, you will design and implement customized solutions that allow our operational equipment to perform efficiently while protecting the safety of our employees.

  • Work directly with the automation technicians and operators to ensure our programmable machines are functioning correctly and troubleshoot issues as they arise.

  • Create documentation such as user manuals, programming diagrams, electrical schematics, training documentation, maintenance procedures and standard operating procedures.

  • Create and assist in training plans for affected parties to ensure our technicians can operate your improvements in a safe, sustainable manner.

  • Must maintain proper housekeeping and safety standards i.e. proper use of personal protective equipment and maintenance of area per safety and 5S standards.

  • Must be able to multitask and deal with firm deadlines across multiple projects.

  • Perform other related duties, as requested by management.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology field related to robotics or control systems.

  • Knowledge of PLC systems and Ladder Logic. Siemens experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of electrical systems including 3-phase AC and low voltage DC.

  • General mechanical knowledge and understanding of mechanical systems required.

  • ABB Robotic programming knowledge a plus.

  • Three to Five years of direct related experience

Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook

  • Good verbal and written communication skills are a must.

  • Ability to work within a close nit team or independently if needed.
