Through participation in project kick-off meetings you will be involved in everything from component selection and functionality, to project planning and target setting, to scheduling and follow-up efforts. You'll be part of a talented group focused on:
  • Developing the PLC and Human Machine Interface (HMI) software for paper making equipment so that everything functions as specified at optimal levels.
  • Testing software modifications to the extent possible prior to delivery and supporting shop tests.
  • Participating in or leading start up activities at customer sites.
What you'll need:We're looking for candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a four-year college or university; a minimum of six years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ideally, you'll have some paper industry experience.Requires an understanding of PLC programming with knowledge of Rockwell ControLogix. As an Automation Engineer at Valmet you'll be part of our Services team and apply your skills and experiences to support the performance of the large-scale papermaking equipment at our customers facilities across North America. In the project phase, the individual is responsible for: * Developing the machine code in PLC or DNA system as well as Human Machine Interface (HMI), software so that equipment functions as specified. * Testing software modifications to the extent possible prior to delivery (shop test). * Participating in or leading start up activities at customer site including: * Checkout of electrical, DNA, PLC and HMI portions * Commissioning of equipment such that specifications are met. * Deliver technical training to customers' operators and/or maintenance personnel as needed * Making return trips to the site to eliminate warranty issues or address customer needs In the product life cycle phase, the individual is responsible for: * Participating in service related calls including scheduled or emergency calls * Participate in pager duty as needed to support customer needs * Deliver technical training to customers' operators and/or maintenance personnel as needed What you'll need: A two or four-year degree in Engineering, Papermaking Technology, programming, or a related field; three to five years experience in a technical role within the papermaking industry or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Understanding of PLC programming with knowledge of Rockwell software. Knowledge of papermaking machinery and hydraulic systems a plus, but not required.
