Summary:

The Automation Engineer I acts as an administration and highly technical resource for process control and supporting systems across Seattle Genetics, Inc. sites. This individual should have effective communication skills with the ability to work across various organizational functions to resolve technical and process challenges in a regulated GxP environment. This person should have a strong ability to comprehend and adhere to all applicable site SOPs and policies in relation to completing working within a regulated manufacturing environment. In addition to adhering to SOP's and policies, this person will need to occasionally revise and draft new guidance and controlled documents as necessary. This individual should also be versed in process validation with the ability and experience to perform related tasks as needed, including drafting, review, and execution of validation documentations and activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Administration of Process Automation System(s) and Building Automation System(s) in support of manufacturing operations, lab environments/equipment, and office spaces

  • Maintain and troubleshoot basic computer and networking issues in relation to SCADA and DCS systems

  • Creation and review of documents using current Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Visio

  • Generate and design reports from process automation systems to provide users for both business and regulatory needs

  • Administration of remote alarm notifications from various systems, including the setup and modification of equipment, escalations, users, and devices

  • Works with instrumentation/calibration in support of automation systems, installs and troubleshoots flow (Gas and Liquid), temperature, pressure, weight, and analytical instruments (pH, Dissolved Oxygen, and Conductivity). Although not a core job responsibility, the ability to work within an instrument calibration program and experience calibrating instruments is highly desired

  • Uses work order management system to assign, track, and complete the performance of tasks

  • Take part in On-Call rotation for the North Creek manufacturing site

  • Work directly with QA and other compliance groups to create, review, and execute validation protocols

  • Supports the administration of the CMMS system

  • Redline system and process drawings to reflect changes made to wiring, process, and system changes

  • Tune PID loops for various process control variables including temperature, flow, pH, Dissolved Oxygen, and others as needed

Qualifications:

  • Strong troubleshooting skills including the ability to analyze and repair highly complex interconnected automation process control systems

  • Strong understanding of ladder logic, function block, and structured text based programming in relation to programmable controllers

  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and concepts such as Allen Bradley Factory Talk, Siemens WinCC, Wonderware, GeFanuc iFixor similar systems

  • Experience working with process historians (Wonderware Historian, iHistorian, Pi, or similar) including administration and processing of live and historical data for trend, alarm, and batch reports

  • Familiarity with ISA symbols and terminology in relation to system loop diagrams and PID drawings

  • Strong computer and controls networking background including Ethernet and control systems communications (bacNET, MODBUS, EtherIP, ProfiBUS and others)

  • Minimal 6 years' experience working in a regulated GxP environment

  • Understanding of collaborative online document editing and cloud storage concepts

  • Ability to work in computer based asset management system(s), existing experience working with Maximo Enterprise Asset Management is highly desired

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in groups and explain issues in a clear concise way

Education:

  • Bachelors of Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical training with 8 years of related experience working on industrial or process automation systems

SUMMARY: The Plant Automation Engineer for AGC's Bothell Sites is responsible for improving work force productivity and quality by anticipating and eliminating potential delays through planning, scheduling, and coordination of maintenance/calibration resources, parts, materials, and equipment access This position is responsible for installing an automation machine, ensuring that all machines are operating correctly. In addition, this position is responsible for developing and designing the concept, choosing and programming a controller and ensuring the proper communication between the actuators connected to the controller, simulating, installing, testing and managing electrical or mechanical automation and finally monitoring the automation processes on an ongoing basis. In addition, this position trains staff to use the machines, managing a team, making sure safety regulations are met and are up to date, as well as troubleshooting problems. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: * Lead/participate in the design, integration, implementation, testing, commissioning, and evaluation of new, computer based automation systems. * Manage projects and other resources. * Simulate and test automated machinery or processes. * Design, engineer, test and troubleshoot control systems. * Lead/participate in problem-solving activities; engineer and implement solutions. * Interact with internal staff and shop floor personnel, as needed * Share 24 hour, 7 day, on call support responsibilities on a rotating basis with existing staff. * Maintain and enhance system documentation. * Interface with management, other engineers and teams. * Help to streamline operations for efficiency, cost saving, safety and reliability. * Maintain technical project files. * Assist with the management of budget, expenses and P&L responsibilities * Manage special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
