Alfa Laval is looking for an Automation Engineer to join our BU Decanters Engineering & Supply team in Richmond, VA.
You will be focused on supporting Business Unit Decanters E&S in their effort to develop and upgrade software for PLC's and HMI's, update schematic drawings using CAD software, and support automation package installations at customer sites.
Your primary responsibilities will be:
Develop and modify software for Rockwell PLC's and HMI's.
Create and modify electrical schematics in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
Lead efforts to troubleshoot and resolve site issues with automation packages, including direct communication with customers and suppliers as needed.
Plan and execute acceptance testing for automation software and hardware packages at customer or supplier sites
You will also be expected to:
Support sales personnel in responding to customer requests for commercial and technical information as a part of the bid process.
Secure currency contracts (amounts, timing, etc.) for managed projects.
Maintain accuracy of order backlog and margin reports within financial reporting tools.
Coordinate claim activities through claim support system.
Develop strong working relationships with customers and sales channels.
Provide sales support by participating in sales calls and conference meetings with representatives, distributors, end-users, contractors, engineering houses, and other prospective customers to develop concepts, evaluate customer needs, and further the sales process on an as-needed basis.
You will have a willingness and ability to travel. A travel commitment of up to 50% may be required. Your time will be split between Alfa Laval's Richmond office and travel to customer and supplier facilities. Travel destinations will have varying levels of required Personal Protective Equipment and may be inside or outside.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities of the Successful Candidate:
We expect you to have a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (strongly preferred), but a degree in another Engineering discipline can be accepted with the proper type and amount of relevant work experience.
You will also have 5 or more years of industry, a track record of proven relevant experience within industrial automation engineering and support is required.
Your knowledge of decanter operations is an advantage, but as a minimum, working knowledge of similar equipment operating in industrial settings is a requirement. Your experience in designing and developing automation packages, including hardware and software, for industrial equipment is required.
