Responsibilities

Job Summary: The Automation Controls Specialist I serves as technical support to ensure a safe environment, producing safe-high quality products in a timely manner, at the best cost possible; responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting of instrumentation, controls, and electrical / electronic systems at the facility. Essential Functions / Process Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned as necessary):Maintenance / Repair / Troubleshooting:- Calibrates, tests, maintains, troubleshoots, and installs all plant instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment- Performs basic maintenance on motor control centers, motor operated valves, programmable logic controllers, excitation equipment, human machine interface devices, and motors- Conducts equipment and system tagging according to company and plant rules and regulations- Troubleshoots and performs maintenance on AC and DC power equipment, process controls, programmable logic controls (PLC), and monitoring equipment- Identifies root causes, using precision measuring and testing instruments

Preventive Maintenance & Safety:- Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications- Follows safe working practices at all times- Identifies safety hazards and recommends solutions- Follows environmental compliance work practices- Performs equipment safety inspections as required, and documents results as appropriate

Total Process Ownership (TPO) / Process Improvement:- Maintains the manufacturing process and equipment in optimum condition- Supports activities that integrate techniques focused on achieving high levels of overall process effectiveness- Uses knowledge and skills to pursue continuous improvements to drive shrink initiatives

Preferred Education and Experience- Associates degree, or comparable experience in a maintenance environment

  • 0-2 years of experience at basic levels in multiple disciplines- Comprehensive working knowledge of all aspects of the plant equipment maintenance operation, including equipment troubleshooting, electrical, refrigeration, machine shop operation, welding, brazing soldering- Working knowledge of either electrical or mechanical repairs, and conducting basic equipment repairs for building and process equipment- Knowledge of instrumentation, controls, low- / medium- / high-voltage switchgear, transformers, programmable logic controllers, protective relays and motor control centers

Preferred Key Competencies- Industrial plant, mechanical, electrical aptitude and abilities- Ability to disassemble process equipment, repair or improve, and reassemble for use- Ability to use voltmeters, ammeters, meggers, calipers, dial indicators, refrigeration test instrument micrometers, electronic test equipment including programmers, machinist equipment and tools, hydraulic test equipment, hand/industrial power tools

Physical and Other Requirements- Lift up to 20 lbs on a regular basis- Lift 20 lbs or more on an occasional basis- Work extended hours and / or rotating schedules- Ability to maneuver through the facility and perform the functions of the job, with or without accommodation (standing, stooping, bending, etc.) - Ability to work in wet, cold or hot environments; depending on the Plant location, temperatures are:-Snacks: Temperature-controlled environment that ranges from 80 to 100 degrees F -Floral: Temperature-controlled environment that ranges from 32 to 42 degrees F

  • Meat: Routinely 30 - 45 Degrees F in a cold, wet environment, occasionally (-) 20 or 85 degrees F in certain areas

  • Milk: Routinely 60 - 80 degrees F in a wet environment, occasionally 38 degrees F in certain areas or 110 Degrees in other areas

  • Ice Cream: (-) 40 to 80 Degrees F; certain areas in a wet environment

  • Bakery: 80 to 100 Degrees F -Tortilla: 80 to 100 Degrees F03-2016
