We are based in Norwood, Massachusetts, which is comfortably within the Boston metropolitan area. HMF's facilities include a state-of-the-art plant, and R&D facility, as well as warehouse and Corporate functions. We are focused on continued growth and are executing against various initiatives that include additional product lines, new sales channels, greater penetration of our extensive customer relationships, as well as opportunistic acquisitions. Our success is directly dependent on attracting and retaining the best possible talent across our functions. To this end, we are posting for a strong Automation/Controls Engineer.

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

The Automation/Controls Engineer will be responsible for all in plant automation devices such as Allen Bradley PLC's, HMI's and VFD's. Owner of all data collection for MES, Kepware and SCADA systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains all equipment programs database.

  • Acts as a technical resource to a variety of cross functional teams to help improve processes.

  • Recommends component replacement or upgrades when items become obsolete or are at end of life.

  • Standardizes components to limit inventory burden.

  • Provide technical documentation and training to maintenance department on component replacements and/or troubleshooting.

  • Maintain building SCADA systems to ensure all are functioning as designed.

  • Continuously improve the reliability of current systems

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, plus 5+ years of direct experience and demonstrated ability in programming a variety of industrial controls.

  • Solid understanding of automated manufacturing equipment and programming.

  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and perform complex system tests.

  • Creative thinking skills

  • Detail-oriented personality

  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and AutoCAD require

  • Experience with databases, process monitoring systems and MES (manufacturing execution system) / information systems

  • Experience in a food processing & manufacturing environment is a plus

  • Must be comfortable wearing PPE (personal protective equipment) consisting of hard had, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Our production floor consists of cold/hot/moisture-rich environments (temperatures varying from 28-40F, cook operations 60-100F, Freezers -10 to more than 110F during sanitation procedures). Must be physically able to work in this environment.
