The Opportunity

Seeking an automation and controls engineer with extensive calibration knowledge to join our team in Pomona, CA. We are looking for someone who is dependable, dedicated for continuous improvement and has experience managing a team of technicians.

Role Responsibility

So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied remit and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:

  • Performs installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all automation system controls in pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.

  • Spearheads a team of calibration technicians in performing calibration activities and assures that all members of the team are properly trained on the relevant engineering procedures.

  • Responsible to assure the calibration work was performed timely, professionally, and according to cGMP.

  • Investigates engineering quality events related to automation controls and calibration of equipment.

  • Initiates change controls for replacement or modification of the equipment control systems and writes User Requirement Specifications.

  • Assists engineering and production directors in performing Gap Analysis of the automation equipment used in the current production processes.

  • Defines actions for implementation of automation and controls in the production lines for improving of the production efficiency.

  • Provides technical support in validation of the control systems.

  • Performs inspections and determine the reparability of the automation systems and schedule repairs as needed.

  • Responsible for preparing Functional Requirements Specification and Functional Design Specification for new automated systems.

  • Responsible for managing inventory of spare parts required for the equipment controls and maintain the storage of the equipment PLC programs.

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to schedule, perform and document all troubleshooting, and repair activities related to automation controls following the current procedures.

  • Complies with the company policies and all safety requirements.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience with repair of system controls for filling and packaging equipment used in cGMP environment.

  • Several years of experience in installation and programming of newer and older types of Allen Bradley PLCs including HMI units.

  • Extensive knowledge in the calibration processes of production equipment and laboratory instruments used in pharmaceutical or medical industries.

  • A few years of experience in managing a team of technicians

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or related discipline is required.

  • Many years of practical experience as automation or system controls engineer for machinery in a pharmaceutical setting

  • Ability to understand electrical and pneumatic controls used in filling and packing equipment.

  • Experience documenting repairs and maintenance in accordance with cGMP requirements.

  • Understanding of FDA regulations for computerized system and 21 CFR Part 11 Compliance

  • Strong knowledge of basic safety policies and procedures in a manufacturing environment, including gowning and PPE requirements.

  • Excellent skills in installation, wiring and troubleshooting of 3-phase electrical motors.

  • Experience in programming variable frequency drives.

  • Experience working filling and packaging equipment including steam sterilizers.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, and Project.

  • Must be available to work Monday through Friday.
