Job Summary: This position is responsible for performing repair work, routine maintenance, and servicing a variety of City vehicles and equipment. This position will also assist with building maintenance as needed.

Major Duties:

  • Performs skilled automotive mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of a wide variety of diesel and gasoline powered vehicles and auxiliary equipment with electronic components;

  • Inspects, tests, adjusts, repairs, and replaces complete or integral parts of diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, etc.;

  • Working on various projects assigned by the manager. This includes but is not limited to welding, fabricating, metal cutting, and some carpentry;

  • Performs routine maintenance such as brake, tire, oil, filters, and fluid replacement;

  • Diagnosing engines and components with computer/ scanner equipment;

  • Must be knowledgeable about reading and repairing vehicles by computer diagnostics and flow charts;

  • Responsible for maintaining paperwork and records for each repair,

  • Responsible for maintaining inventory including relevant records.

  • Performs other related duties as required. This will include light building maintenance and repair as determined by Maintenance Manager.

Knowledge Required by the Position:

  • Knowledge of the principles governing the operation and maintenance of internal combustion engines;

  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment and technology used in the repair and maintenance of automotive and related equipment;

  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the automotive repair trade;

  • Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and materials of the mechanical trade;

  • Skill in repairing defects in a wide variety of automotive equipment;

  • Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic failures;

  • Ability to adapt successfully to the wide range of equipment repaired in the shop;

  • Ability to learn how to safely operate gas and arc welding equipment to fabricate parts or mounting equipment;

  • Ability to learn new technology and terminology of modern automotive equipment;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers and other City employees;

  • Ability to keep shop inventory, tools, and building organized.

  • Ability to obtain Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Work Environment: Most repair work is completed in a shop; on occasion, equipment repairs are made in the field which may involve hazardous conditions. The work involves considerable physical activity with exposure to safety hazards normally associated with general vehicle and equipment repair.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent; two (2) years of automotive mechanic experience; Vocational coursework in a related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ASE Master Automotive Technician Certification will be required within two years of employment. The areas required are brakes, engine repair, transmissions (both manual and automatic), suspension and steering, electrical/electronic systems, heating and air conditioning systems, and engine performance.

Pay will be determined based on experience.

In addition, this AutoZoner will be required to perform duties inside our stores, driving, and at our customers' place of business. Drivers are responsible for ensuring maximum productivity in a safe environment, increasing commercial sales, and ensuring compliance with company procedures in accordance to AutoZone's expectations. The incumbent will exceed customer's expectations by delivering WOW! Customer Service to all AZ Commercial accounts. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provides WOW! Customer Service * Utilizes ZNET to help customers locate merchandise or find suitable alternatives * Adheres to AutoZone dress code * Follows all company policies, procedures and management direction, including all fleet and safety policies * Ensures commercial products are delivered on time and in excellent condition * Drives delivery vehicle to transport parts to Commercial customers, including the loading and unloading of parts * Maintains a safe driving and working environment, including PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) * Picks up parts from nearby stores and outside vendors * Ensure appropriate delivery documentation is generated and issued for each delivery, then appropriately filed at the AutoZone store * Follows proper accident procedures * Properly maintains vehicle(s) and takes the necessary steps to report vehicle maintenance issues * Ensures that assigned company vehicle is kept clean and presentable * Builds long term professional relationships with the customers * Handles cash transactions, charge transactions, and core/part returns per company policy and guidelines * Inspects, protects, and maintains company assets, merchandise, and vehicles * Assists DIY customers between deliveries by performing the following duties: * Utilizes OBDII to read codes from customer's automobiles * Practices GOTTChA and assists with the installation of wipers blades, batteries and light bulbs * Maintains product knowledge and current promotions through AutoZone systems and information sources * Maintains store appearance and merchandising standards as directed Position Requirements * High School Diploma or equivalent * Basic knowledge of automotive parts is required * Excellent communication and decision making skills * Ability to lift, load, and deliver merchandise * Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the business needs, including holidays, evenings and weekend shifts * Valid driver's license and ability to meet AutoZone's driving requirements * Drivers - 21 years or older Autozone, Inc.
