Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will report to the Auto Damage Appraisal Supervisor and will report out of the Home Office. The desk appraiser will be responsible for producing accurate Auto Damage appraisals from photographs, review of shop written estimates or through field inspection when/if necessary. In addition they will be responsible for review and remediation of appraisals written by repair facilities, Independent appraisers or Direct Repair Facilities. Additional responsibilities are:
1.Appraise material damage to motor vehicles, motorcycles, heavy equipment and recreational vehicles via photographs, review of shop appraisals or physical inspection. Obtain meaningful agreed prices with repair facilities, as needed.
2.Assist the claims department and serve as an appraisal subject matter expert for the front line claim adjusters
3.Evaluate and negotiate total loss settlements, including disposal of salvage.
4.Supervise a Direct Repair Program shops, as necessary.
5.Handle other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
6.Provide exceptional customer service to our internal and external customers.
7.Appropriately respond to customer complaints or issues resulting from appraisal related matters.
8.Available to travel, when necessary, to respond to catastrophe events. Response to catastrophe events may necessitate physical inspection of vehicles rather than desk reviews/appraisals.

Education:
4-year degree and/or equivalent business experience preferred.

Must have New York State Independent Appraiser's License. Other state licenses a plus.

Experience:
3-5 years of previous appraisal experience preferred.

Coursework:

A.S.E. and/or I-Car certifications preferred, Insurance coursework recommended

Communication:

Frequent verbal and written contact, Interpersonal skills a definite plus

The position can work remotely if/when approved by the Appraisal Supervisor or Director.

Essential Functions: * In conjunction with the Learning department, develop, coordinate and facilitate training for all Utica National Auto Material Damage claims personnel upon hire- those with and without experience. May involve collaboration with other business units. * Confer with Utica National Claims management team, the Learning Dept., and employees to gain knowledge of work situations where training is identified as a possible solution. * Gain understanding of departmental changes in policies, procedures, regulations, business initiatives, technologies, etc. Include areas identified through quality or operational reviews. * Develop a training solution when a training need is identified with minimal prompting. * With the assistance of the Utica National Management team, ensure that both long-term, strategic and short-term, tactical learning needs are met. Monitors industry trends and marketplace experiences and ongoing training needs * Partner with the Learning department to evaluate training effectiveness to ensure achievement of desired results * Maintain records and author reports to monitor and evaluate training activities and program effectiveness * Utilize appropriate learning methodologies and technology to design and deliver training to Claims staff * Responsible for updating and maintaining the claims technical manuals to ensure materials are current and accurate. Updates Share Point and Utica National website with relevant, timely information. Distributes approved information to all Utica claims associates and leaders in a timely and effective manner * Assists leadership in skills assessments and other performance intensive reviews, as needed * Assists the Director of Auto Material Damage in preparation for claims meetings as it relates to claim quality and training * Recommends new processes and assists with integration of new technology in collaboration with Utica Auto Material Damage leadership and other business partners * Provides monthly assessment of needs, including monthly offerings and applicable quantifiable results, to Director of Auto Material Damage * The trainer will work in tandem with the Auto Material Damage leadership team and Learning Dept. to ensure skill development of claims personnel positioning them for success in the Auto Material Damage claims department. The trainer will act as coach and mentor in their role and be responsible for developing training strategy and curriculum that positions Auto Material Damage claims personnel to advance into other claim positions in the organization, including Bodily Injury * This position may be utilized to directly handle claims and manage a desk in times of high volume and need * Some travel will be necessary.
