This position may become a hybrid role to the New Hartford, NY office after the initial onsite onboarding and training period. The start date for this role is anticipated to be Monday, June 17th, 2024.
What you will do
This is an entry-level, fast-paced insurance claims position and is ideal for someone with strong customer service experience, communication skills, detail orientation, and an investigative mindset. New college graduates are encouraged to apply! Insurance experience is helpful but not required, as this role includes a comprehensive onsite training program. This position has room for growth and could be your start to a rewarding career in the insurance industry where you'll play an important role in helping our customers in their time of need!
Key responsibilities
Receive claims assignments consisting of insured and claimant accident reports.
Investigate multiple lines claims pertaining to material damage first-party and property damage.
Communicate directly with insureds, claimants, shops and others in person, by telephone and through written correspondence. Correspond with the Home Office and other field offices.
Check and verify damages, obtain copies of police reports, motor vehicle reports, repair bills, estimates, appraisals, and other information.
Determine extent of damages, coverage questions and settlement values by evaluating all the facts developed through investigation.
Adjust, negotiate and settle justified claims for proper amounts within authorization or as directed by superior; issue settlement drafts or deny unjustified cl aims as soon as practical (consult with superior on all questionable matters, on all settlements exceeding adjuster's authorization and on all claims prior to denial).
Maintain strict diary on all active files.
Follow directives and instructions from Claims Supervisors and superiors.
Review and study claim practices, policy coverages, procedures, civil and motor vehicle laws, bulletins, and attend company training classes.
Review incoming loss notices and assign accordingly to claim representatives within unit or send to appropriate handling office/region.
Provide exemplary customer service.
Adhere to mandated state regulations.
What you need
Four year degree or equivalent experience. Insurance related coursework helpful.
2-3 years working in a Claims environment preferred, but not required.
Required to obtain state licensing for file handling.
Skills associated with this position: excellent verbal and writing skills, investigation, negotiation, decision-making, confidentiality, insurance coverage review.
Licensing
Required to obtain your license(s) as an adjuster in the state(s) in which you are assigned to adjust claims. Licensing must be obtained within the timeframe set forth by the Company and must be maintained as needed throughout your employment.
Salary range: $37,800 - $45,500
The final salary to be paid and position within the internal salary range is reflective of the employee's work experience, their geographic location, education, certification(s), scope and responsibilities in the role, and additional qualifications.
