The Autism Specialist is responsible for providing in-home support services to families and their children with autism.

Duties:

  • Provides individualized support services to families.

  • Provides family support services to families as requested, also accompany family to doctor or dentist appointments.

  • Conducts training programs for families, both at the office and in the home. This consists of the delivery of workshops to families, followed by modeling agency strategies with consumers during sessions, then coaching families to work with their son or daughter.

  • Conducts observations at schools, homes, and/or other locations for the purpose of offering suggestions to assist and benefit both the consumer and staff. May entail submitting written suggestions to the observation location.

  • Determines number of hours per month to serve families and schedules accordingly, under supervision of Autism Team Leader.

  • Provides family connections meetings, respite events, social groups, and sibshops in assigned area; provide respite as necessary.

  • Submits timely monthly reports including: progress reports, mileage, daily activity, expenses, time sheets, and other documentation.

  • Solely responsible for community inclusion activities, transporting the individuals and facilitating interaction between the client and members in the community.

  • Networks and establishes positive relationships with cooperating agencies and organizations in the community.

A successful candidate will possess:

  • Good communication skills, both orally and written.

  • Must be able to manage and embrace change and be flexible, reliable and dependable.

  • Must be able to think objectively and take quick action when the need arise.

  • Must be able to provide training and teach parents and professionals.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in human services and/or related field required.

  • Experience: Experience working within social service preferred, 1 or more years preferred.Familiarity and/or some knowledge of individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities preferred.

  • Other: Must have chauffeur's license within 60 days of hire, vehicle and vehicle insurance.
