The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Co (HSB) is seeking an Authorized Inspector to provide ASME, NBIC, PED, IC, TPI, or other required inspections at a full time shop in the Atlanta, GA as well as providing coverage to other areas as needed in the Southeast Region.
This field based position is an integral part of our commitment to the quality and service we provide for our customers and to their equipment. The work is varied from day to day and is ideally suited to a self-motivated individual who can work independently. A successful inspector will have excellent communications skills and the ability to work with HSB clients and customers in a professional manor with high integrity.
The position has minimum qualifications of a high school diploma and work experience with boilers and pressure vessels or nuclear reactors. The required work experience can be reduced if you have an engineering degree.
Our entry level inspectors start with 12 weeks of intensive training to gain the necessary experience and qualifications required to perform inspection during construction, repairs or operation of in-service equipment.
Training is provided annually for all of our inspectors, which is developed and supported by our technical industry experts.

Engineering Fee Services:
Global Inspection and Engineering Services is an inspection focused engineering division of HSBIIC with over 450 engineers, inspectors and auditors located in over 27 countries. The world's largest ASME Authorized Inspection Agency, GIES Inspectors are instrumental in providing on location services that verify the quality and conformance of pressure equipment when it is being manufactured, erected and/or repaired. The work of our Global Inspection and Engineering Services personnel is focused on the beginning of the life cycle of the type of equipment insured by HSB and is an important part of HSB's comprehensive understanding of the insured equipment. Services include:
Review and acceptance of Job Packages
Monitoring of Quality Control System
Witnessing final Hydrostatic Test
Review and signing of required documentation
High School Diploma
Minimum 3 years in the operation, fabrication or installation of boilers and pressure vessels.
ASME and NBIC Code Knowledge
Meet the required experience and qualifications to take the NB exam
Excellent human relationship skills
Basic algebra skills
Computer skills for Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes applications
National Board Card with IS Commission with "A" Commission
5 years with experience in boiler and pressure vessel design, fabrication and testing
AWS CWI, ASNT Level I and II in visual inspection, dye penetrant and radiography
Quality insurance inspection experience
Experience in coordinating and facilitating 3rd party inspection activities and reporting of same
This position requires a person to routinely move about at a site facility. As such, candidates for this position must be able to perform the below physical requirements:
Ability to crawl through 11" X 15" openings into confined spaces. Enter and function in very tight confined spaces.
Ability to climb vertical ladders and several stories of stairs.
Ability to climb and function at heights of at least 30 feet, and up to eight(8) to ten (10) stories.
Ability to perform bending, stretching and twisting motions.
Ability to withstand temperature variations. Temperature variations could be as much as 70 degrees.
Ability to walk 3-5 miles.
Ability to stand for long periods of time and able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
Ability to lift own body weight while hanging or entering a confined space with associated safety equipment
Ability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs.
Visual acuity of 20/20 (natural or corrected) and identify colors.
Ability to hear (corrected) the sounds of equipment operation.
