Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Currently enrolled in an accredited accounting, auditing, or taxation program or pursuing a bachelor's degree that will result in having 24 credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation.
A working knowledge of accounting/auditing procedures and techniques.
Proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel.
Preferred candidate will have:
Strong analytical/problem solving skills
Excellent written/verbal communication
Ability to work independently & as part of a team
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Duties Description About the NYS Department of Labor Administrative Finance Bureau and Internal Audit Services Unit:
The Administrative Finance Bureau (AFB) is responsible for the budgeting, management, accounting and expenditure of all department funds. The AFB ensures that all resources are managed in a fiscally responsible and efficient manner and that all funds are expended in accordance with all appropriate state and federal rules and regulations. In addition, this bureau offers support operations services including payroll, travel and expense payment activities.
The Internal Audit Division's mission is to help the New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) and its management fulfill their responsibilities by providing independent and objective appraisals of NYSDOL's financial, operational, and control activities.
This internship offers a unique opportunity for a qualified candidate to gain valuable experience in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. You will work alongside experienced accountants and auditors on a variety of projects, including:
Reviewing budgets for multiple programs within the Department of Labor
Using technical, accounting, and auditing software to support accounting/auditing projects
Under the guidance of an experienced accountant, initiate a more detailed review of program spending to determine the cause of over or under spending issues
Under the guidance of an experienced accountant, perform a variety of accounting tasks; such as researching and analyzing financial data; preparing entries for input into the accounting system and preparing bank reconciliations.
Under the guidance of an experience auditor, assist in establishing the scope of audit by analyzing and determining areas for audit and the time frame to be examined
