    The Auditor is responsible for completing all stages of audit and advisory engagements across the University system to provide reasonable assurance that risk management, control, and governance systems are functioning as intended. This involves planning, performing, and documenting the results of operational, financial, and compliance engagements. This position is the journey-level of the audit roles.

    The Auditor will interact with many levels of University administration and is expected to possess strong communication skills. The candidate is expected to work under moderate supervision with general latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Specific job duties include:

  • Partner with management to assess risks- Plan, design and perform audit tests, and prepare workpapers to document tests performed- Perform evaluations of financial and control systems and make appropriate recommendations to strengthen controls and/or improve processes- Communicate the results of audit and consulting projects via written reports to management and the Board of Trustees- Work with management to reach a satisfactory resolution of findings and action plans- Provide management advisory services

  • Pursue professional development opportunities, including external and internal training- Represent AAS on organizational project teams and with external organizations- Other duties as assigned Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience:Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and no prior work experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience. Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and 1 year of professional-level experience in accounting, auditing or financial management, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.

    CPA, CIA, CFE, or CISA is preferred (or working towards obtaining one of the certifications). Knowledge of higher education industry policies, procedures, regulations, and laws. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:In addition, the following demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities are desired: -Adept in balancing communications with stakeholders and confidentiality required of the audit profession.

  • Sound business acumen and varied work experience.

  • Analytical proficiency, with the ability to assimilate complex information.

  • Skilled in clearly communicating both details and synopses to a variety of audiences in both verbal and written forms.

  • Ability to establish and maintain objectivity while providing superior customer service.

  • Adept at leveraging technology to prepare analyses, summaries, reports, and memos.

  • Knowledge of the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Code of Ethics developed by The Institute of Internal Auditors.

  • Experienced in multi-tasking and time management to meet deadlines.

  • Familiarity with forensic accounting and investigative work. Job Duty:Under general supervision with limited autonomy, complete audit and advisory engagements, ensuring they are thoroughly performed and of the highest quality, completed in accordance with IIA professional standards and Audit & Advisory Services procedures.

    Essential Function:Yes Percentage of Time:30 Job Duty:Prioritize work and demonstrate flexibility in managing audit and advisory engagements to an agree-upon budget, notifying AAS management of issues that may have a significant impact on the audit schedule. Essential Function:Yes Percentage of Time:30 Job Duty:Communicate the results of audit and advisory engagements via written reports to management that contribute to presentations to the Board of Trustees. Work with management to reach a satisfactory resolution of observations, recommendations and action plans.

    Essential Function:Yes Percentage of Time:15 Job Duty:Complete non-engagement assignments, including quality initiatives and administrative assignments. Represent AAS on organizational project teams and meetings. Essential Function:Yes Percentage of Time:10 Job Duty:Maintain focus on professional development through department assignments; internal and external training; review of technical updates, higher education issues, and governmental regulations; and changes in professional standards.
