Job Description:

This is professional services work conducting detailed analyses in support of criminal investigations of financial and other white collar crimes within the Office of the Maine Attorney General Investigations Division. This position will work closely with OAG detectives and prosecutors, as well as with other law enforcement partners.

Responsibilities include synthesizing and analyzing complex financial records, generating written reports with appropriate graphic data visualizations, delivering periodic reports and updates to investigators and prosecutors, advising leadership on technical capabilities and needs, and testifying before grand juries and in criminal trials. Strong communication skills, including the ability to effectively summarize and explain complex data to a lay audience, are imperative.

Some periodic travel within and outside the state may be required as operational needs dictate. Work is performed under limited supervision.

REPRESENTATIVE TASKS:

  • Review voluminous business, banking and other financial records for accuracy and completeness; identify missing or incomplete information; prepare follow-up requests for information.

  • Digitize ad hoc sets of hard copy bank records using appropriate software; perform quality control checks on final product; prepare digital records for manipulation and analysis.

  • Analyze various sources of information, including financial and other business data; generate detailed written reports summarizing their contents, relationships, and patterns; create relevant data visualizations to assist with audience comprehension.

  • Testify before grand juries and in criminal trials as to your analysis and findings.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field and four (4) years of auditing/accounting experience to include at least two (2) years of professional auditing experience and one (1) year of experience as a working supervisor or in an equivalent capacity. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Proof of passing all examinations required to become either a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, or Public Accountant may be substituted for one (1) year of non-auditing experience.

Preference may be given to candidates with prior investigative experience, either in a law enforcement or forensic capacity.
