Examines and analyzes financial records of City departments, concessionaires, and sub-grantees to determine compliance to pertinent laws and regulations; prepares detailed reports of findings; performs related work as required.

  • Examines the financial records of City departments, concessionaires and sub-grantees; analyzes the validity of such records and the auditee's compliance to pertinent laws and regulations.

  • Compiles data and prepares reports on such items as expenditures, assets and revenues; prepares special reports as assigned.

  • Conducts pre audit surveys and reports on findings.

  • Examines and analyzes the accounting transactions of all City operations.

  • Examines the reconciliations and analyses of all City account balances.

  • Assists in conducting special audits as assigned, including inventory and Fixed Assets verification.

  • Assists outside auditors in assembling and examining City financial records.

  • May assist in the training of lower level auditing employees, accounts receivable and accounts payable clerks.

  • Reconciles bank accounts with the General Ledger.

  • Assists in the development, design and implementation of computerized systems for the Finance Department.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in Business Administration, Accounting, or closely related field.

  • One (1) year of experience in public, commercial or governmental auditing work.

  • Thorough knowledge of auditing procedures and accounting principles as applied to budgetary and governmental, cost, and encumbrance accounting.

  • Ability to read and interpret ordinances, laws, regulations, and pronouncements.

  • Ability to prepare accurate and detailed technical reports.

  • Ability and willingness to maintain effective working relationships with City officials, employees, the public, and others.

  • Ability to meet the physical, mental, and visual standards of the job.

  • Ability to develop and maintain standard data processing methods and procedures for processing basic accounting data.

  • Valid Michigan Driver's License at time of appointment.
