Reporting to the State Transportation Commission, the Office of Commission Audits is an independent audit agency tasked with performing internal and external audit and advisory services related to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). As an auditor, you'll have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in procedural reviews and risk assessments. As the next auditor, you will be responsible for:

  • Performing attestation and consulting work related to MDOT's internal operations and compliance-related work pertaining to MDOT's vendor and grantee relationships.

  • Evaluating vendor and grantee requests for reimbursement through contract-based attestations that adhere to generally accepted government auditing standards (GAGAS) and consulting engagements designed to mitigate billing and compliance-related risks to MDOT.

  • Using resources to research, interpret, and apply regulatory, auditing, and accounting requirements as related to routine engagements.

  • Assisting in conducting investigations. This includes the gathering of information to develop the scope, program, and procedures; developing the audit program and procedures; and drafting investigation reports.

The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (9) level through the maximum rate at the advanced (12) level.  Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting.

Note:  We may consider applicants that will be obtaining a bachelor degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting by May 31, 2024.  

Experience

Auditor 9

No specific type or amount is required.

Auditor 10

One year of professional experience auditing accounting, financial, and operations records equivalent to an Auditor 9.

Auditor P11

Two years of professional experience auditing accounting, financial, and operations records equivalent to an Auditor, including one year equivalent to an Auditor 10.

Auditor 12

Three years of professional experience auditing accounting, financial, and operations records equivalent to an Auditor, including one year equivalent to an Auditor P11.Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certification (CPA) may be substituted for one year of experience at the P11 level.

OR

Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of experience at the P11 level.

Possession of a Certified Internal Auditor certification or a Certified Information System Auditor certification may be substituted for one year of experience at the P11 level forpositions responsible for internal auditing.

OR

Possession of a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credits (36 term) in finance, information systems, or management may be substituted for the education for positions responsible for internal auditing.

Possession of a valid driver's license is required.
