Manager, Data & Analytics GM Audit Services

The data & analytics manager is responsible for leading team of data & analytics professionals and reviewing solutions being developed and deployed in audit and/or business in support of timely application of world-class technology/methods to GM products and processes. Based on emerging technology, the manager leads innovation and continuous improvement in analytic approaches to problems and strategy development.

Responsibilities:

The Data Analytics Manager GM Audit Services will be responsible for extracting, transforming, loading, modeling, and analyzing data from GM systems. There is an expectation to become immersed in North America and global projects, incorporating GM International Operations (including China) into global team based in Detroit. Responsibilities include managing front end solutions including report generation (which may be in the form of visualizations such as graphs, charts and dashboards) and detailing significant results identified. The Data Analytics Manager will have responsibility for ensuring all tasks are performed in a technical and systematic way, using the standard formulas and methods as are common in the industry and relevant to the current data. The Data Analytics Manager will use standard methods in all stages including collection, analysis and reporting and will be responsible for interaction with all audit/business stakeholders to gather requirements and manage delivery.

  • Lead a team of Data & Analytics professionals and provide guidance on all aspects of model development including compliance with design frameworks, development standards, optimization of development efforts

  • Conduct adhoc and manual solution reviews. Provides guidance to analysts for continuous improvement

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to report out development progress and escalates issues requiring attention

  • Support the senior leadership team in implementing a comprehensive Audit Data Analytics strategy that is aligned with industry best practices.

  • Assist the Internal Audit organization in the development of the annual global risk assessment and data enabled internal audit plan.

  • Managing regional internal audit requests and updates to the regional risk profile, to facilitate the efficient allocation of resources focused on the appropriate risks across the organization.

  • Providing oversight of the execution of the approved analytics enabled audit plan across regions, ensuring adherence to prescribed timeliness and budgets.

  • Data enabled monitoring of the status of audit report findings and recommendations to ensure management's timely adherence to the implementation of agreed upon action items.

  • Reporting to leadership on the results of analytics, including the effectiveness of systems and controls to manage risks. Raise potential data integrity or regulatory compliance issues to the business.

  • Developing and driving data analytics quality, continuous improvement and knowledge sharing throughout to enhance the value provided to stakeholders.

  • Develop, implement and manage data strategies that optimize data quality to improve standardization and business value.

  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets and develop graphs, reports, and presentations of results.

  • Convert business rules from data stewards into technical rules for data quality analysis and management.

  • Establishing and maintaining cross-functional and cross-regional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Liaising with management on a regular basis to ensure knowledge of business strategies, objectives and risks are appropriately considered by data analytics and to provide subject matter expertise on data analysis and visualization.

  • Liaising with the internal/external resources to establish an efficient data analytics approach, leveraging internal resources and technologies where possible.

  • Prepare effective presentations (verbal and written) for project teams and business leaders.

  • Use organizational research tools to monitor the external environment, both proactively and upon request, and identifying relevant dynamics with potential impact on business operations.

  • Evaluation and / or implementation of data audit and visual analytics techniques, methods, and tools, including but not limited to: Tableau, SQL, ACL, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, SAS, etc.

  • Developing talent at all levels in a manner that promotes achievement and progression to more advanced roles, as part of a defined career path. Effectively leading and motivating teams with diverse skills and backgrounds while facilitating an innovative and inclusive team-oriented work environment.

  • Take lead role for data analytics in standing up predictive analytics practice area and in training global data analytics team in this space.

Requirements/Skills:

The Data Analytics Manager-GM Audit Services will possess a combination of business knowledge, technical skills, people skills, and the ability to guide a data strategy. The Data Analytics manager must possess technical expertise complimented by strong finance analytical abilities. The Data Analytics Manager must have the ability to manage the extraction, modeling, and front end solutioning of information from various databases using complex query statements and advanced database tools. The Data Analytics manager must have skills to provide data analyses comparing the company's results to those of competitors and the industry, and to draw insights from the organization's data.

  • Understands problem types, and inherent limitations of various solution techniques

  • Able to clearly explain the approach, limitations, assumptions, and risks of the analytic modeling to other practitioners who are not familiar with the topic

Required Job Qualifications:

  • Requires 4 Year College Degree/Master's degree preferred in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Engineering, Economics or other quantitative field with emphasis on modeling and forecasting, machine learning, text analytics and/or optimization/simulation methods preferred or equivalent experience.

  • 3-5 years of experience in finance/accounting environment analyzing complex data to identify anomalies and provide useable information to internal and external customers

  • 5 years demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team and interact with subject matter experts and all levels of management

  • 7 years of experience using business intelligence tools and databases, applying advanced analytics and data reporting techniques in a large/complex environment. Experience with ETL (Alteryx), SAS, SPSS, R

  • 3-5 years of experience developing talent at all levels in a manner that promotes achievement of critical leadership behaviors and progression of advanced roles

  • 4 years of experience using Tableau Software Business Intelligence suite (including desktop and server deployment), or other similar front-end data solutions (e.g., IBM Cognos, Business Objects), including ability to design and implement canned / Ad-Hoc reports and complex dashboard solutions

  • Experienced with data acquisition and manipulation, modeling, and analyzing data from core financial platforms (SAP, Hyperion, Enterprise Data Warehouse)

  • Experience writing efficient Structured Query Language (SQL) using various SQL-development software packages including Teradata and Oracle PL/SQL. Ability to use custom SQL or Hadoop for complex data pulls.

  • Extensive experience in Database querying, writing procedures, complex joins and indexes

  • Excellent communication skills
