Audit Manager

Position Summary

Grant Thornton understands how important audited financial statements are to businesses, shareholders/owners, lenders, investors and other stakeholders. We work with some of the country's most successful private and public companies to first understand their businesses and the risks they face, and then focus our efforts where they matter most. We work with clients to improve their overall financial reporting processes and to help them better understand their businesses. We also consider it our job to continually inform our clients about accounting, financial and regulatory developments that may affect their businesses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the efforts of multiple client engagements in a wide variety of industries with the ability to manage to budget.

  • Maintain active communication with clients to manage expectations, ensure satisfaction, and lead change efforts effectively.

  • Consult, work with, and service client base to make recommendations on business improvement and process improvement and serve as a business advisor to client.

  • Team with partners and senior managers on proposals and business development calls.

  • Understand and manage firm risk on audits and proposals.

  • Manage, develop, train, and mentor staff on projects and assess performance for engagement and year-end reviews.

  • Actively participate in recruiting talent to the firm.

  • Attend professional development, networking events and training seminars on a regular basis.

  • Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict client confidentiality.

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, MBA a plus.

  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive audit experience in a medium to large public accounting firm or equivalent, Big 4 experience a plus.

  • Active CPA license required.

  • Excellent analytical, technical, and auditing skills including proficiency in US GAAP, GAAS, and PCAOB rules and standards.

  • Ability to work additional hours as needed and travel to various client sites.

  • Travel Percentage: 40%

A highly visible position requiring the ability to interact with executives and staff at all levels. Ability to balance the Business Unit's (BU) needs with the needs of the professional staff is critical to this position. This position is responsible for approximately 150-200 client service staff professionals in the Audit Business Unit and reports to the Resource Management Lead. The person in this position is a member of the Audit Operations Team. Capacity Management * Lead the scheduling effort within a geographical or industry aligned area. * Conduct monthly meetings with leadership, building a strategic partnership that helps them to run their practice * Understand staff skillsets and clients and provide opportunities for individual growth, as well as ideal engagement teams for our clients. * Scheduling and conflict resolution. * Lead scheduling meetings with partner and manager groups. * Actively manage productivity. * Provide review and analysis of standard reporting. * Understand forecasting and business financials. * Liaison with other groups on a firm-wide and BU-wide basis when resources are needed. Resource Development and Support * Identify appropriate internal and external courses for staff and assist in the coordination of geographic based courses as necessary. * Assist in the integration and onboarding of campus and experienced hires. * Coordinate overall workforce planning for geographic areas, including understanding of hiring needs, both campus and experienced, and areas for learning and development. * Assist in the annual budgeting process for geographic areas. * Be a staff advocate, available to all staff for issues they do not feel comfortable addressing with their career coach or other leadership. * Work directly with BU People Operation Leads on all HR matters, including providing performance feedback and identifying growth opportunities for staff.
