As an Audio Visual (AV) Design Engineer, you will play a key role in implementing some of the most challenging and innovative AV solutions within Google. These are systems that represent areas in broadcast, custom "exhibit-style" AV systems, systems that are leveraging custom software and hardware, and public-facing spaces that have direct impact to Google and its brand. You will be a part of a team that provides innovative solutions, at a scale that is atypical in the audio visual industry. You will also be responsible for partnering with experience designers and project leads to make sure the facility vision is achievable within Google's infrastructure, and supportable beyond the facility opening.
Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We're always on call to keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience in system design and development of customer facing facilities and AV systems.
Experience with various operating systems (Linux/Mac/Windows), system configuration, and prototyping concepts.
Experience with AV test equipment and software, and documentation testing for system performance.
Experience with new build construction projects including AV and lighting specific facility impacts (HVAC coordination, lighting control, etc.).
Experience in writing software or design software architecture to be able to automate AV systems and integrate with other facility IT systems.
Experience with broadcast systems; lighting control, audio consoles and routing/distribution, video control and switching, matrix intercom, etc.
Off-the-shelf audio DSP programming experience (Q-Sys, Soundweb, Biamp, etc.).
Knowledge of AV, IT, networking hardware and AutoCAD proficiency.
Knowledge of visual display parameters and how to configure them (color space Rec.709/Rec.2020, brightness uniformity, CalMAN, etc.).
Validate and translate business requirements and creative intent into technical specifications and operational procedures, including assessment of development milestones and risk mitigation. Assist in prototyping and signoff on all prototypes prior to release.
Develop testing plans and performance criteria for all facility AV and interactive systems. Develop performance standards for a given facility/exhibit when it falls outside of published standards.
Develop tests and signoff procedures that confirm system performance and design intent from proof of concept through final implementation at single or multiple sites.
Work in partnership with Experience Design firms (where applicable) to guide their technical choices. Implement and commission scope for each project.
Ensure all solutions work within the context of Google, on our networks, and within the constraints of our security requirements. Stay up-to-date with related industry trends and new technologies.
