VIEW JOBS 4/21/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-07-20T00:00 The Atlantic is searching for an Audience Development Manager to help our journalism reach and engage even more readers. In this role, you will partner with edit, product, consumer revenue, and advertising as an expert on audience-related trends. You will be a key resource for helping colleagues understand who is engaging with our work, how often they are returning, and how we are faring with our most-loyal fans and customers. Your day-to-day responsibilities will, in part, depend on the news cycle and the changes that will inevitably spring up across the platforms where we publish. But part of your daily focus will always account for analysis of off-platform reach and onsite activity, along with experiments to bolster growth. You may also dabble in search marketing and social media acquisition. We are looking for a specific set of skills, but these experiences could come from a number of backgrounds. Prior experience in publishing and media is preferable; a passion for journalism, though, is most important. GA 360, Facebook Analytics, and Google Data Studio will be daily destinations. You'll report directly to the Director of Audience Development, based in New York. Responsibilities: * Work with colleagues in editorial, growth, and product to understand and interpret the behavior of Atlantic readers across all digital platforms * Build audience-metric reports and act as a resource for questions regarding our distribution and engagement efforts * Work with our data science team to field questions from colleagues and identify the tools and datasets needed to get the answers * Benchmark our performance to competitor and industry trends * Oversee cross-functional growth experiments to expand audience reach and engagement * Translate relevant audience data into presentations and memos for stakeholders across departments * Manage any relevant editorial promotion budgets for testing and acquisition Requirements: * A passion for high-quality journalism generally and The Atlantic specifically * Fluency in spreadsheets; experience working with SQL and BigQuery datasets is a plus * A quantitative mind with qualitative capabilities—the ability to think both scientifically and artfully * Knowledge of Google Analytics (or a comparable toolset) * An intuitive grasp of modern editorial considerations and publishing business models * Ability to collaborate with cross-functional groups and communicate with senior executives Atlantic Media Values Across Atlantic Media, generally, the firm looks for two "pillar gifts" in you, and everyone else. In all of us, these are more aspirational than actual, but they are central in our intentions. * Force of Ideas: At the center of Atlantic Media work are the ideas within our writing. We believe that ideas – to the good and not – have consequence. Our highest work is bringing rigor, insight, intellectual honesty, to that ultimate purpose of separating the bad from the good, and giving voice to the latter. * Spirit of Generosity: Atlantic Media seeks in its ranks a spirit of generosity – a natural disposition in each colleague toward service and selfless conduct. Atlantic Media writing should be cut from the same cloth – critical on the merits but informed by charity and forbearance in measuring motive and personal character. Atlantic Media is an EOE of Minorities/Women/Vets/Disability. Atlantic Media Company New York NY
