Position Summary

The Credentialing Attorney position provides legal support and guidance to the regulatory authorities on credentialing matters, coordinating and conducting legal reviews of applications and representing the department in administrative proceedings concerning credential denials. Duties include:

  • Reviewing and analyzing all application records to determine if records are legally sufficient to support approval or denial of a credential. Making written recommendations to regulatory authorities.

  • Drafting a variety of legal documents such as application denials, letters of intent to deny an application, requests for additional information, limited licenses, and various other credentialing documents.

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range (09-75) with an annual salary of $84,240-$100,880, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Certain positions within this Department may allow remote/work from home flexibility for a portion of their work schedule, depending on the needs of the position and the work unit. This topic and any remote work flexibility that may be available will be discussed in more detail in the interview process. For permanent positions that allow remote work flexibility, it is not anticipated that working outside of Wisconsin (or bordering cities) will be allowed because positions may need to report to office locations in Wisconsin on short notice.

Qualifications

Candidates must be licensed to practice law in the State of Wisconsin prior to the application deadline.

Qualified applicants must have all of the following:

  • Experience conducting legal research including statutes and regulations.

  • Experience analyzing facts and law and providing legal advice/recommendations to non-lawyers.

  • Experience drafting legal documents including correspondence, memorandums, briefs, and proposed decisions, including findings of fact and conclusions of law.

In addition, a well qualified applicant will have experience with at least one of the following:

  • Litigation training or experience (criminal, civil, administrative, or other).

  • Experience with licensing and/or employment discrimination law.

  • Experience performing legal work for professions such as real estate, accounting, cosmetology, medicine, nursing, or comparable.
