Our Growing firm seeks an experienced Veterans Law Attorney to head up our new Veterans Disability benefits practice.

Our Growing firm seeks an experienced Veterans Law Attorney to head up our new Veterans Disability benefits practice. Our clients are located across the United States. We are looking for a full-time talented attorney to handle veterans disability appeals.

Duties include:

  • Conduct initial interviews with prospective VA claimants to determine viability of the claim

  • Personally represent clients in the prosecution of appeals before the VA Regional Office, BVA or the CAVC, including developing evidence and extensive research and writing of appellate briefs and other substantive pleadings.

  • Represent veterans before Veterans Law Judges at the BVA and in appeals to the CAVC.

  • Maintain effective communication with represented clients through mail, telephone, and email.

  • Supervise and train the support team.

  • Assist with representation of clients at the Regional Office (RO) in filing original claims and appeals, and representing clients at Decision Review Officer Hearings.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current veteran statutes, regulations, and case law through personal research and by attending CLE training per year, subject to approval.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified applicants will possess a law degree from an accredited law school.

  • An active member of the bar of any U.S. jurisdiction.

  • Applicants must possess legal research and writing experience and demonstrate excellent oral and written advocacy skills.

  • At least 2 years working with VA disability benefits.

Preferred but not required:

  • Prior military experience.

  • Disabled veterans are encouraged to apply.

  • Veterans legal clinic experience or experience handling VA claims or appeals is highly desired.

  • The applicant should possess a working knowledge of VA benefits (Title 38) and related laws, regulations and procedures, as well as a familiarity with Federal court veterans benefits jurisprudence and general administrative law. To the extent that these are not currently within the applicants knowledge, they will be expected to acquire such an understanding of VA law in short order.

Leads Divisional Planning and PMO processes, including annual business plan and quarterly business reviews, ensuring appropriate prioritization of investments and reports on benefits realization, and maximizing the effectiveness of PMO resources and processes across the division. Duties & Responsibilities 1. Manages staff. Provides guidance, training and motivation as necessary to develop staff. Hires, evaluates and counsels personnel. Follows corporate disciplinary procedures when required. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, provides feedback, and recommends wage increases in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures. 2. Leads the team responsible for identifying and developing new offers as well as managing the long term strategy and sustainability. Serves as the primary business partner, responsible for effective communication internally to HR and across the organization. 3. Analyzes and recommends optimal structure and technology requirements for the Offer Management function. Contributes to the annual business planning process. Understands the financial dynamics and cost drivers of the business. 4. Creates, communicates, implements and leads the Offer Management function with the goal of capturing the voice of crew and clients to ensure needs are being met. Establishes an effective measurement framework to monitor offer effectiveness and enable appropriate transparency across the organization. 5. Maintains an appropriate level of Vanguard and industry knowledge; keeps current on Vanguard and policies and objectives. Continues to expand knowledge using an active external lens to identify leading practices to expand the HR organization offer. Stays abreast of emerging technology trends and associated opportunities/impacts. 6. Partners effectively with senior and functional leadership and critical business partners in building and administering the Offer Management function. 7. Demonstrates initiative and creativity in the initial creation and ongoing management of the Offer Management function. 8. Assess PMO needs across the division and establish a centralized function that enables the team to be efficient and effective in delivery. 9. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate should possess * Undergraduate degree required.
