Job Description:

The Piscataway NJ GEICO staff counsel office is looking for a senior attorney to:
1.Research laws and Prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
2.Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
3.Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, to include depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath.
4.Defend by trial, arbitration, or mediation all matters assigned, as applicable.
5.Adhere to the GEICO Code of Conduct, company policies and operating principles.
6.Meet attendance standard of the business location, to perform necessary job functions and to facilitate interaction with supervisors and co-workers.

The acceptable candidate must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New Jersey and meet the requirements specified below.

Position requires a minimum of 5 years experience in personal injury litigation and demonstrated trial ability in cases of moderate severity and complexity (such as control files) or 7 years litigation experience and demonstrated trial ability in cases of moderate complexity, preferably in New Jersey.

Travel as required, including but not limited, to attend trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferences.

  • Access and utilize multiple pieces of office equipment that may require simultaneous use.

  • Communicate in a professional manner in person, via telephone and written correspondence/email.

  • Document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner, to be understood by customers, clients, co-workers and other employees of the organization.

  • Follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority setting and multi-tasking skills.

  • Learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.

  • Demonstrate successful performance in handling trial responsibility for cases of significant severity and complexity.

  • Salary and grade will be commensurate with experience

Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in the State of New Jersey, and meet and maintain licensing requirements including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE).
