The Attorney will closely partner with the corporate and divisional human resources professionals and advise on all aspects of employment-related issues. This individual will coordinate with business partners in HR and other areas to provide oversight of employment law compliance requirements across the Company and identify, enhance and design administrative efficiencies and consistency.

Compliance Research & Advisory

  • Monitor and research changes in federal, state and local employment, benefit and compensation laws and regulations, keeping abreast of current changes impacting Foot Locker

  • Work with key business partners across HR to prioritize action plans in response to impending federal, state and local laws and regulations requiring action(s)

  • Coordinate with partners in facilitating awareness across HR as new legal requirements develop and direct compliance issues to appropriate channels for investigation and resolution

  • Provide advice and counsel to human resource professionals in the corporate and U.S. operating divisions on a wide range of employment issues, including compliance, and policies

  • Collaborate with key business partners to create a plan that identifies trends in non-compliance and potential areas of vulnerability and risk; develop and implement corrective action plans for resolution

  • Lead audits to ensure business remains in compliance with applicable state, federal laws

Compliance Reporting & Documentation

  • Develop best practices for wage and hour, retention and other employment related record keeping requirements

  • Collaborate with HR business partners to develop and maintain a regular compliance checklist of various HR legal requirements (i.e. training, reporting, records retention, etc.)

  • Negotiate and draft contracts with service providers

Compliance Program Management & Training

  • Work with Human Resource business partners to monitor training programs to ensure regulatory compliance as needed

  • Conduct employee training in relevant areas

  • Advise the Employee Relations group regarding employee hotline issues, complaints, investigations

  • Lead and advise working group comprising legal and human resources staff on U.S. legislative activity in the employment area

  • Juris Doctorate and New York bar admission

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience with a law firm or in-house

  • Experience in either employee benefits or immigration would be a plus

  • Proven knowledge of employment law processes, regulations and procedures

  • Strong communication, writing, and negotiating skills

  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail

  • Experience using time management skills, such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines on multiple projects

  • Ability to work as part of a team and interact effectively with others

  • Multi-task oriented

  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to influence at all levels and present in front of large groups

  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills

  • Strong problem solving skills

Primary Responsibilities: * Draft and negotiate all types of publishing agreements, including co-publishing , purchase agreements, administration agreements, modifications/extensions, etc. * Respond promptly to requests from various internal and external clients. * Work with royalty personnel on responses to audit claims. Negotiate and draft audit settlement agreements * Work with Sony in-house litigation staff and outside counsel on litigation matters: Review claims, coordinate responses to discovery requests, review answers, motion papers, briefs, etc. * Work closely with A&R staff on preparation of proposals. * Prepare and circulate deal approval memos * Advise internal clients on legal issues and risks, complex agreement structures, approval processes, copyright issues, company policies and procedures, intellectual property and agreement strategy. * Support the continuous improvement of standard form agreements and legal processes. * Perform other relevant duties as assigned Qualifications: * JD degree and must be a member in good standing of the New York bar * Prior Music Publishing legal experience preferable * Prior experience negotiating and drafting various types of music business agreements * 2 years minimum post graduate relevant experience * Excellent business judgment and strategic thinking * Exceptionally organized, meticulous, and detail-oriented * Team player with ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously * Ability to handle high volume of transactions and interact with various departments * Ability to consistently work under pressure in a professional manner; excellent problem solver * Ability to use analytical thought process to make fast paced decisions * Ability to effectively interact and communicate at all levels including Sr. Management, A&R staff, and Artists/Writers/ Lawyers/ Management * Must Love Music!
