Job Description:

GEICO seeks an insurance defense Attorney for its Concord Staff Counsel Office.

Under close supervision, DEFENDS lawsuits against GEICO insureds and represents GEICO in subrogation, Uninsured Motorist (UM) and Underinsured Motorist (UIM), and PIP lawsuits filed in courts of limited jurisdiction and, in the discretion of the Managing Attorney, in courts of unlimited jurisdiction.

Essential Functions:
1.RESEARCHES laws and PREPARES legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
2.RENDERS opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
3.PREPARES and HANDLES pleadings, motions, and discovery, to include depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath.
4.DEFENDS by trial, arbitration, or mediation all matters assigned, as applicable.
5.ADHERES to the GEICO Code of Conduct, company policies and operating principles.
6.MEETS attendance standard of the business location, to perform necessary job functions and to facilitate interaction with subordinates and management.
7.MEETS the requirements specified below.

  • Must be able to travel as required, including but not limited, to attend trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferences.

  • Must be able to, with or without accommodation, perform the essential functions which include, but are not limited to seeing, hearing, typing, speaking, bending, reaching, lifting and standing for extended amounts of time.

  • Must be able to access and utilize multiple pieces of office equipment that may require simultaneous use.

  • Must be able to speak in a clear, empathic and professional manner by telephone and email.

  • Must be able to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner, to be understood by customers, clients, co-workers and other employees of the organization.

  • Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority setting and multi-tasking skills.

  • Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.

  • Must have the following education and experience:

  • License in good standing to practice law in applicable jurisdictions.

  • Minimum of 1 year of personal injury litigation experience or 2 years' litigation experience.

This Attorney position requires the candidates to hold and have held a valid drivers license compliant with company underwriting standards for a minimum of three years, and to maintain applicable state and federal certifications and permits.

We are seeking full time skilled individuals who is capable or willing to learn to perform small vessel operations, mechanical maintenance, and provide support in all phases of oil spill response equipment operation, deployment, retrieval, cleaning and storage. Requirements of the Position * High School Diploma, GED or equivalent * A valid driver's license * Ability to operate industrial equipment safely * Must meet all work eligibility requirements * Employment is contingent upon a successful background check, drug screen and pre-hire medical exam * Responsibilities and on the Job Training * Assist in various types of oil spill clean up activities as needed * Deploying, retrieval, and processing of oil boom and sorbent materials in the marine environment * Deployment, operation and retrieval of hydraulic driven oil skimmers in the marine environment * Logistics support operating trucks and transporting trailers * Develop a basic working knowledge of all equipment that is utilized in performing our work * Operation of small boats including navigation equipment such as radar * Maintain response equipment such as diesel hydraulic skimmers/pumps, outboard motors, trailer services, and troubleshoot electrical and/or pneumatic systems. * Ability to operate equipment in accordance with all policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure safe and productive work experiences * Complete and submit appropriate paper work and reports (manually and electronically) properly and timely as required including; time records, maintenance and safety reports * Availability to report to the work site location within a 1 hour recall notice and work 14 days or more in the case of an oil spill or weather related activity * Because of the emergency response and operational nature of the position, a continuing condition of employment is that the applicant/candidate acknowledges and agrees to be on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and on occasion will require work during week-ends and holidays * Work effectively in team environment and provide support and assistance * Expected to perform other duties as assigned Physical Requirements * Requires standing, lifting up to 45 lbs * Requires the ability to wear the personnel protective equipment prescribed by posted signs and written instruction * Able to work in various temperatures indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain or dry environments * Ability to perform work in various sea conditions, under all environmental conditions, often wet/oily decks Join the largest, dedicated oil spill and emergency response company in the United States and, work with some of the best people and technology in the world!
